I'm bored - Random football questions

by bobby1413 » 31 Dec 2016 21:18

Bored at home on New Year's Eve so thought I'd ask the following...

(Can choose anyone at all, in any league, country etc...)

Club you would love to see in the Premier League

Club you'd love to see slide down the leagues

Who would you support or follow if Reading weren't around

Feel free to add any other random questions.

Rochdale
Portsmouth
Maybe Plymouth if pushed to give an answer I guess.

Answer 1 -Reading (obviously), although assuming you took that as read I would be happy to see Peterborough there as well
Answer 2 - again assuming that Chelsea is an obvious answer, other than that any team managed by Warnock
Answer 3 - do you mean if Reading disappeared who would I switch to ? If Spurs were not rebuilding WHL I'd say Spurs. Would say FC United as have several friends who are involved there.

Why has that put you off? I love the pics of the bigger ground swallowing up the old one. It actually demonstrates that the soul of the club is still in the area and they've not actually moved to another area or like West Ham - pathetically bought a vacant bowl somewhere and stuck up some West Ham

And yep - not allowed to say Reading as that would be boring. My second question is if Reading ceased to exist.

bobby1413 Club you would love to see in the Premier League

Mmmm no real stand out candidates. Millwall just for the laughs when they end up rioting every single game in every single town.

bobby1413 Club you'd love to see slide down the leagues

MK Dons or Swindon

bobby1413 Who would you support or follow if Reading weren't around

Sheffield Wednesday

Club I'd most like to see in the Premiership.

Rochdale's a good call.

Team I'd like to see slide down the leagues.

Anyone managed by Mourinho or if I had to pick a single club, it would be Wigan. Shitty club in a shitty town.

If not Reading, who?

It would have to be local and not in the Premiership. My nearest league club is Wigan (see above) so I'd probably go non league and plump for Marine or Tranmere Rovers.

Club you would love to see in the Premier League - You said any league or any country, so for me it would have to be a club the size and with the spending power of someone like Real Madrid/Barcelona/Bayern. Just to see how a team full of 'galacticos' would get on, week in week out against teams in the Prem (not just a Champions League KO game).

Club you'd love to see slide down the leagues - Any clubs whose fans think they deserve to be in the Premier League. No one has that right, no matter how much history your club has.

Who would you support or follow if Reading weren't around - It would have to be someone I could go and watch every week, and a team I didn't dispise from supporting Reading, so looking at local sides. I don't think I could put up with the shambolicness that is Basingstoke, even though I am spitting distance from the ground. Couldn't do your Bristols, QPRs, Brentfords etc..

Would probably look at Wycombe/AFC Wimbledon/Stevenage.

Club I'd like to see in the prem:
Plymouth

Slide down the league:
Chelsea probably, for a laugh

If no Reading:
Sheffield Utd (or Plymouth)

All smashing little clubs.

AFC Wimbledon

Chelsea, West Ham, Wolves, Brighton, MK Dons

Who would you support or follow if Reading weren't around
FC Saturn Ramenskoye - my 2nd team but I don't get to many games
In England - no idea. If it was phrased "who would you have supported" then possibly QPR as born nearby (moved to Reading just before 6th birthday) or Arsenal due to family allegiance.

M8 of mine is moving up to Dunnet in Scotland in a few months. Wick will be his 'local' team who are in the Highland league and he is planning on getting to games. I basically decided that I will start following them once I have made my first trip up to visit as we plan on tying in my trips up there into going to the odd Wick game. come on you Wickers!

he doesn't really know. He reckons there are a few employers around Thurso which is about 20 minutes or so from him. 2 year ago he split up with his mrs, his job turned sh*t and his only family in the 'ding area decided to move away all in the space of a few months. He decided to sack it all off and start again somewhere else. Bought a detached bungalow in the middle of nowhere for minimal money, paid off half of it upon purchase after selling his house down here and has been up there every few weeks over the last 18 months to work on it. He aims to be in there in early summer. reckons the pubs in the area are pretty decent and his ventures to them so far have seen them very welcoming to him.

part of me is jealous as he plans to do nothing but find a stress free job, have more disposable than he did here, watch football a lot, go to pubs, enjoy the countryside and find a bird to nail on the regs. Though a small % of me is waiting for him to turn out to be a murdering psycho or a closet homo.

I think you've mentioned him on here before, and we've had this very conversation before.

Saving money on your mortgage always seems like a false economy to me given the higher costs associated with living somewhere that far away - even a trip back home will cost you hundreds and your earning power is substantially reduced no matter what you do.

But that aside fair fooks to him for giving it a go and if the rural life appeals why the hell not. I enjoyed the recent Fair Isle documentary on the beeb. That would be even tougher - but it does seem like there's a correlation between isolation and cohesion in communities, if that's not a contradiction in terms.

Yeah have mentioned it before. As long as he can find some kind of friends up there then I think he will be fine. He is someone quite happy on his own most of the time anyway and he has no reason to come back down this way once gone either.

The ferries to go to the Orkneys & Shetland are only 20-30 minutes from him. Once he is in and it is summer I wanna get up there for the longer evenings and we are taking an adventurous trip to one or more of said islands above. I did look into getting to the Faroe Islands but that looks like a right ballache

I have done the Smyril Line from Lerwick in my time but it no longer goes direct to the Faroes or Iceland last I saw. It'd be easier getting there from down here, as is so often the way.
