Boring, boring Premiership. Is it not excruciatingly dull being a United fan?

Manchester United:

18 titles, 11 FA Cups, and 3 League Cups. 3 European Cups, and 1 Cup Winner's Cup. Have done the Double 3 times, including once when they also won the European Cup. They've already won League and League Cup, and could still yet win the European Cup this season.

Liverpool:

18 titles, 7 FA Cups, and 7 League Cups. 5 European Cups and 3 UEFA Cups. Have done the Double once, won the League and European Cup in the same season twice (including once when they also won the League Cup), and the league and UEFA Cup in the same season twice.

So, which is now the best team in English history?

It's obviously the one that has won most in Europe rather than the one that has won a few more FA Cups.
Really there is no doubt here.

And, if next season it reads 19 & 4 vs 18 & 5, who then would take precedence?

Should have played another 30 seconds for the substitution in added time.

Could Newcastle be in contention for next year's title.

Absolutely. I didn't see Ferguson tapping his watch on this occasion.

On a more general note though - whenever a sub is introduced by a winning (or drawing) team on TV, the commentator always goes through the mantra about the manager trying to run the clock down. And I've always thought that was bollocks, as the ref would add 30 seconds anyway. Well, not true obviously.

That's a big "if", but supposing it happened the conclusion would be that Man Utd have a better record in the domestic league but Liverpool still have a better record in Europe.

Oh well, so much for trying to generate a bit of conversation. Never mind.

As a disinterested observer, I would suggest that United's treble would inch them ahead of Liverpool in the event that the situation you described came to pass.

United clinch landmark 18th Premier League title

A stunning achievement given that the PL is only finishing its seventeenth season!
