Pompey takeover - Rags to riches

Good luck to them and all that. (tongue firmly in cheek), but this chap, isn't he the one who bought Man City? :|

I remember his face plastered all over the sports pages when Citeh were taken over.

He was a board member of the group which took over City.

I've just this minute been sent this link by a Pompey fan here confirming their new chairman. Most of the Pompey fans are now creaming themselves with excitement.

There still selling there best players and have made Paul Hart full time manager. Hardly sounds like massive ambition to me. He will have to stump up a 100 million for a new stadium first.

Moylesey?

Is that a rumour he's going there as manager then?

Surely there is a conflict of interest here?

The guy who fronted up the purchase of one PL side, then buys a different PL side? Presumably he made a few (Million) £ for his part in the Man City purchase, therefore I can't help but feel his loyalties might be a little strained if, for example, Pompey (who were safe) were playing Man City who needed a 4-0 win to secure 4th place and the last CL spot..............

....but hey, as the boys at the PL have OBVIOUSLY checked him out thoroughly, I'm sure that there is NO CHANCE of that happening.*

*(the checks carried out were "can we see your current account please? Thank you. Oh yes, you are definately fit and proper to own a PL team")

It's not foreign owners per se, because no-one can complain about Randy Lerner at Villa and how he's run things. It's more about "inappropriate" ownership - just why do these people want to come and buy our clubs?

It's not as a money-making investment, that;s fir sure - it's really just status and oneupmanship games amongst the Emirates Sheiks.

Oh right! I never paid any attention to what the new guys name was called.

Thought it would've been a bit harsh on Hart after just being given the job!

They're not even that scrupulous. He has to sign a piece of paper which is a self-certification effectively asking "Are you a liar and a cheat?".....

Interesting fact - when the Glazers bought Manchester Utd the only regulatory authority to scrutinise the transaction was the NFL, to make sure he wasn't over-stretching himself. The PL didn't do any checks on him.

You mean the John Madejski born Robert John Hurst on 28 April 1941 in Stoke-on-Trent?

I personally think that ultimately all of these rich folks buying-up the "lesser" EPL clubs will be a good thing. Imagine, the "big 4", the former clubs of the G-14, etc. now being threatened by massive investment into clubs that could take the silverware and the CL spots away.

This will result in some sort of wage cap.

Typically one doesn't seek equality for all unless those that are "more equal" become threatened...
