Do footballers enjoy their jobs?

by Archie's penalty » 19 Dec 2009 22:47

What with Harry Redknapp denying his team the opportunity to go to Dublin on holiday I was just wondering if footballers enjoy their jobs?

They are under constant pressure from managers and from the press, have little freedom etc.

What do you reckon folks?

think that you hve answered your own question

Despite their money, I guess our precious footballers feel the same way

(seriously) It must be a drag doing the same old warm-up routines week in week out

The self-discipline when it comes to food and alcohol must test even the most saintly

The fear of "what will" I do when this career has run its course, must be a nagging doubt for all but the A-Listers

Good answer thanks. I can't help feeling players might have enjoyed it a bit more in the past.

no doubt that they did. A couple of whiskies with your team mates and the referee in the Spread Eagle before the game added to the fun

But back then, they still had core career trades to fall back on when the manager said "take next Saturday off".

And now I suppose the ones who have a lot of money can rely on that for the rest of their lives. But money doesn't always bring happiness...

These days even an average player in the Championship can earn enough money to set himself up for a very comfortable lifestyle without having to work again

The days of seeing the likes of Webb or Gooding working as posties or estate agents are gone

Some don't - that young Ipswich keeper went back to Ireland to play GAA rather than play professional football.
