Who do you think should take us into the world cup, after the JT story coming to light and people calling for him to step down.

Do you think it would do him (or us) good though? - do you think the pressure of being England captain might harm his performance on the pitch?

i still haven't seen him lead though. he needs a season minimum captaining united.

for now, the obvious choice is gerrard.

Gerrard, the man who beat the shit out of someone in a club over the music?.......if Terry has to step down over an affarid, why should a thug get the band?

I personally think Frank would be the best bet, being that Rio is too injury prone at the moment.

But surely being England captain means you're the biggest role model for every kid in the country?

don't assume i want terry replaced as captain. but if he was to be, gerrard would be, for me, the obvious choice. i don't care what a footballer does in his personal time. remember, we only hear about what they do when they cock up or get caught. not many of them are angels. theyre young men with a lot of money and women falling at their feet.. if they play football and play it to their best standards, that's all I care about :!:

Gerrard? The same player who has been sulking this season, and has showed no desire or passion when his club are in the shit? Fair enough if you think so, but for me, Wayne Rooney is on a different level to most, if not all the other English players.

But the point is when it IS in the public eye they have hundreds of thousands of kids looking up to them, so really they have a responsibility to come across as an angel in the media - thats why David Beckham was such a good captain.....

I don't know why we've got to throw out Terry. His private life is nothing to do with football.

But if your team mates dont respect you and take the side of Wayne Bridge, you haven't got much hope in leading the team in the World cup, have you???! :?

HAs to be Rooney.

He thrives on pressure.

And behaves off the pitch.

Can't be Gerrard due to that fist fight
Can't be Rooney due to Grannygate
Can't be Rio due to missing a drugs test

What was he 17?

Bit different aint it.

ANd for someone who was so derided as a youngster for being thick, he now comes across as an articulate and intellignet young man. I go as far as to say he's one of the few footballers I actually listen too.

When he is shagging the wife of another player who is likely to be in the squad it surely does have something to do with football?
