Lets face it, HNA? members' knowledge of good realistic players for us to look at picking up is pretty limited, so there was never likely to be a deluge of great suggestions.

If it's random potential names to throw into the mix, here's a few, bearing in mind I think we'd need a steady, consistent experienced defender to compliment Pearce and Morrison.

Martin Taylor
Emerson Boyce
Matt Kilgallon
Nyron Nosworthy
Sean St Ledger

St Ledger would be a quality signing, very good player IMHO

Kilgallon if he could stay fit would be a terrific signing. Apparently we've made enquiries about this Colchester centre back but it all hinges on Mills staying or going.

Really? That's a shame, I thought he was one of those that had been forgotten about.

Looked really good for a while then lost his way but still young with lots of potential and didn't think he'd cost too much. If Leicester are looking at him he'll probably be out of our price range now.

I am betting they will be looking to bring a player in on a loan deal, a la Bertrand, instead of purchasing a player outright. Who that may be I have no idea... :?:

I think the essential criteria is pace.

Clearly pearce was much better alongside mills than Ivar. That said mills constantly gets dragged out of position and we really have let in some schoolboy goals at times. Ok he has been our best defender last season and was terrific in some one off matches but over 46 games I felt as a defensive unit we weren't totally at ease. Secondly he is easily rattled and you worry he will get red cards.

So its an opportunity in my opinion , albeit a worrying development if we are looking to keep long kebe and jobi.

Now we're probably on the look out, what about one size?

McD isn't getting any of the Mills money he's just been on BBCRB saying that the money is being used to balance the books.

...as will the money for Long...the money for Kebe.......... but god will still expect BM to perform miracles ..whilst other teams in div beef up for their challenge .....so what are we saying then ...if Mills is the only one to go then theres no players in?

I am sure we will bring in at least one more CB whatever the club says. It would be suicide to go into the season with just two specialists plus Harte, Gunnar etc - even if you do intend to play Harte there.

Injuries to Pearce and Morrison and you would have a problem. Having said that in 2005/6 we only had Ingi and Sonko of note and we did ok that year!

No Fixed Abode Dean Lewington from MK Dons.

Have always liked him but for most of his career he has played left-back.
Now,if we were to sign him as a left-back..........................................
If Pearce and Morison are in the frame I would prefer us to sign a more experienced player, perhaps one who has drifted out of contention like a Carlos Cuellar.
A decent signing-on fee might make up for the drop in wages and clubs like Villa don't pay big bucks.
I'm not saying him in particular but we will have getting on for £9 million once Long goes and even if we have to keep £4 million back for the customary black hole there will be some money to play with.

Hopefully also our scouts will have been at the European U21 champs (Bournemouth even sent one) as that is where you might spot an alternative younger player from one of the lesser footballing nations-City have just paid £6 million for one player but I'm sure that there will have been many other less expensive options.

EP says the only way we will get anyone in currently is by way of the loan system.....

Therefore I am not expecting any signings any day soon.

Is the club's current account in such a bad way that we have to wait for the money from the sale of Long (anything from £3 million to £10 million) before buying another player?
If so that Brighton fan might be right in suggesting that ours is a club experiencing financial difficulties rather than the well run ship that the RTGs are continually telling us RFC is.
