He also said we were bringing in Dean Kiely as GK coach.

Maybe we should throw in Pog too.... course we'll have to double the price as compensation.

They want £1m up front I reckon, be interesting to see how far we're prepared to go on this one.

For the record would he offer anything different to the squad compared to Sa and Pog?

He's faster and stronger than the Pog

800k compared to a million shouldn't be a deal breaker really.

Unless Brum will always ask for 200k more than we offer.

Good sign is they haven't simply said he's not for sale.

Spoke to a Brentford supporting colleague this morning who said CD was lightening quick and potentially brilliant, but very often goes missing. Said they were really dissappointed he left them and if coached properly could be fantastic. Basically has loads of raw skill, doesnt quite seem to know how to use it all very often.

Surely that depends on what we think he's worth and how much money we have to spend.

It's easy enough to say, 'uck it, I'll give you your extra £200k but it's not so easy when you actually have to find the money, and we might already have gone £300k more than we thought was the right price. £500k to £1m sounds a lot more.

I can't really remember him to be honest, but it's a fair whack to pay for a 31 year old who's only had the one season at this level, albeit a pretty successful one by the sounds of it. He looks a handful though and from the little I've read it sounds like he's made for playing upfront on his own, something we don't have in the squad at the moment.

If we spend that kind of money on him then I don't think anyone could accuse the Thai's of not backing the manager.

You are of course correct and I think we have been here before where the club have got to a point with bids and then just walked away because they thought they had reached the top price they would pay. It's usually unpopular with fans but probably the right approach.
I think things are slightly different right now.
I get the impression the ground work has been done, the players identified, the money made available and we are getting the business done. Everyone knows there is a rebuilding job to do and the Thais absolutely want a successful club. There is always going to be a point where the bids stop but if after 2 bids the gap is really only 200k, and Donaldson is seen as a player we want rather than a nice to have then I think we'll bridge that gap.
Three million pound plus players would be very good news (even if we got the best of them for nothing
) and as you say I would hope people start giving the owners some respect for the backing. They do need to carry on and add 2or 3 more though to do the job properly.

Not dissing Donaldson because I think he's a decent enough player at this level but I keep hearing about him having bags of raw talent, flits in and out of games, us being willing to go to £1m+ etc which, to me, is all fine and dandy if he was 22-23 years old but he's 31 and I think the club are right to not be held to ransom by Birmingham.

Also, I agree that we are now seeing what the owners are about. The money is clearly there for the right players at the right price. Personally, !'m happy with low key ownership and it does seem to be a return of sorts to the "Reading Way", sensible money being spent sensibly.

Absolutely agree. Can't help but think there must be some younger talent in Div3 or Div4 that could do a job as well, but then you can never have too many strikers in my opinion.

When he scored against us a few months ago I said to my brother how we could use a player like him. Although he is decently old, he still has bags of pace, a fierce shot and great attacking positioning. A bit like Cox
