Royal Lady Looking for a clio/saxo/corsa

Better look for a Polo or Yaris instead, the french ones you mentioned are absolutely horrendous quality and will continually need repairs. Buy a Yaris and you can go on and on forever with no repairs.

Polos are quite expensive and Yaris are fairly new aren't they? We want a car about 7 years old, not too heavy on the mileage - it's not like he's going to keep it forever - as soon as his insurance starts to fall, he can get a newer and better car. Cheers though.

seriously RL keep an eye on Southampton St garage, owner is local to you and family are in to saxo's etc, worth a call. Also worth keeping an eye on the parking bays outside Bulmershe bit of Uni as always a few decent looking cars there.

When I was 17 odd it was a 50cc bike, now it has to have a roof on it.

He can't really spend more than £1500 on a car, as the insurance is upwards of £3500. He's not keen on a fiesta, MF, I'll get him to look at a few though - might persuade him.

Ideal £3500??

Royal Lady, is there no way you can register the car on yourself, and insure it on yourself?
Paying £3500 for insurance is hopeless, why could you not do your son a favour and register it in your name?
Then you can buy him a safer more modern car.

I pay £4000 and the car was £1350. Just the norm nowadays but hopefully a years no claims makes it atleast 2k cheaper.

Rl is 1.4 to big?

I'd have to check if the insurance goes up much higher on a 1.4 - thanks Lowerwestjr

Ideal - as Svlad has already said, it's against the law - and working in the insurance industry - the last thing we want to do is break the law and get caught - so he'll have to pay the going rate I'm afraid.

Dunno if it helps but there are usually a few cars for sale up near Bulmershe College, alos worth putting the word wherever you get your cars services, will have ears close to the ground.

Against the law are you sure? Obviously being in the business and all I'm sure your right but when I got my first car it was registered to my mum and then I was insured on it alot cheaper than if I was by myself on the car. My sister is currently Insured on a car that my mum registered under her name and the difference in Insurance costs was almost £2000. It may be that I have totally misunderstood what you guys ment but thought I would try help.

At the very least lots of insurance companies are wise to the practice and will refuse to pay out on any claims.

But yes, it's technically fraud - obtaining services (insurance) by providing false information.

Ideal Well I'm sorry, it's not a crime in Norway, nor is it borderline illegal in any way. You simply have to declare that there will be drivers under the age of 23 driving the vehicle, then you pay a little bit more, but it's still cheap.
I had no idea you English kick up such a big fuss about it, what a complete ripoff.
In Norway you can also register your car 50/50 on two people, so you could have yourself and your son co-own it.

In the UK you have to nominate the "main driver" - the premium will be assessed on that. Insurance companies are very wise to "fronting" and pro-actively investigate both claims and new policies - the computer goes "ding" if an older person acquires a small car at the same time as putting a younger driver onto the insurance, especially if said older person already has a policy for another car.

If we do Admiral multi-car (cheers Ozy for the recommendation) - the total with all 3 cars is only £2,200. 8)
