Bottle tops

by working class hero » 03 Dec 2006 14:26

Got stopped going in yesterday and had the top taken off my bottle 'in case you throw it at away fans'..... I could be an Olympic shot putter IF I could lob a full bottle all the way from the North Stand [row BB] and hit the away fans. I take water as I am on a zero [or as near as possible] sodium diet.
The guy next to me had his top removed too - but pointed out his apple would also be a useful weapon.

Imagine my surprise on getting to my seat to find Mrs WCH and my daughter had both bought bottles of water and had been given them complete with tops. Mind you for £1.60 for a half litre they really cannot remove anything or fans might see it as being poor value..... [Asda sell 6 for £1.28 so a mark up that defies decency].

Odd how some people were allowed in with metal flasks too.

I remember at Darlo v F'boro there was a bloke who had his drum taken off him because it was classed as a weapon but they let him keep the stick!

If it did happen, your saying you would rather be hit with an actual drum than a drumstick??!

The key is to put the bottle in your back pocket.

I recall Danny Baker doing a running theme on his programme about thing allowed/not allowed in and the 2 standouts for me were:-

Torquay, iirc, stopping a guy taking in a paperback book

AN Other club allowing a butcher in with his full set of knives.

At away games I always put the top in my pocket before reaching the turnstile. This is the first time I have had a problem at a home game.

Do the rest of us do, either hide the bottle or just stick the bottle top in your pocket until your past the steward.

Personally, I think this is ludicrous as I would actually prefer to be hit on the head with bottletops instead of coins (which are allowed in).... plus a flying bottletop is going to be easier for fans, stewards, police, officials and CCTV cameras to spot.

The reason for removing the top is to prevent full bottles hitting people - they empty in mid air. Earlier in the season I went from the garden to the ground and found I had entered with my pruning knife in my pocket.... although tempted to murder several innocent people I managed to control myself.....

I applaud this new stewarding initiative. I used to have to bring water bottles for my 2 kids. Now I tell them I can't bring them because the stewards won't allow it. Less to carry to the ground. :D

I'm confident enough in my abilities to know that I can hurl a full bottle of fizzy pop without the lid and still hit the target (or thereabouts).

I'm prepared to demonstrate this (although not in the Mad Stad, obviously) if anyone wishes to challenge me.

They're quite happy to allow full cartons in - should think they hurt a fair bit if thrown with any force.

Mr Coppell is allowed to keep the cap on his bottle !

Also reminds me of when I bought a flag from one of those little kiosks outside the ground. The steward wouldnt let my son take the flag in to the ground unless we removed the pole ( as it wasnt 'hand' length). So you can imagine my suprise when other kids are waving flags on the teraces elsewhere with poles twice the length !!!

Fair enough having rules like this but let the administration of them be CONSISTENT !
