Marketing man re-incarnation

by Nobby » 16 Dec 2006 00:18

Not sure if this is known but I found this on a Swindon site. I refer to paragraph three in red.

PAUL Sturrock wants to get cuddly' with the good folk of Swindon and to leave the past behind.

The Town manager says his remit extends beyond just winning football matches and he wants to play an active role in developing a club' as well as a team.

Sturrock, attending a gathering for new recruits Mike Bowden and Boyd Butler, said: "I'm a hands-on man, not just on the pitch.

"I'm quite happy to get my hands dirty in other areas and try and bring this town back together again with the football club.

"Administration has dented this club big time over the years and I think now it's time that we got a wee bit cuddly with the people of Swindon again if possible.

"That's something I think the players can achieve by going out and about the town.

Advertisement continued...
"I can achieve it by talking to the business world but in the end the football fan has to be given honest feedback.

"I'm hoping now that we will be a more open football club than we've ever been.

"At the end of the day they (the fans) are Swindon football club. We want this to be a family rather than anything else."

And Sturrock wants a forward focus.

He said: "The important thing to say straight away is that the history of this football club is history. That's where it should lie.

I think we have to look forward now.

"The five-year plan is vitally important to the football club."
