Help Junior home socks needed for saturday Sheff utd!!

by boyal royal » 13 Jan 2007 20:33

Hi does anyone know where i can get some junior home socks from for sheffield utd (sons a mascot) as the club shop have sold out and don't think they will have any by the end of january! JJB only do the shirts and shorts. He's got the full away kit but they stipulate full home kit.

I'd ring the club, Leroy's feet can't be that big.

Ron Grant's yer man.

Was also going to suggest going for a pair of Leroy's socks :D

Might be worth letting Gill Jacob (Mascot person) know ( community@READINGFC.co.uk ) and perhaps she can sort this out. I would copy the email to Sara Jacob ( SJacob@READINGFC.co.uk ) who's responsible for Events & Communications. Good luck!

come back and let us know how you do

Not able to help with the socks I'm afraid but out of interest, didn't they used to include the kit in the cost of being a mascot?

I thought paying to be a mascot included the full kit - it certainly used to. If they are saying there are no more junior socks available, then future mascots will be in the same position.

I'm glad someone had the same understanding as me.

Pretty clever move on the part of the business side of the club (again). Remove the kit from the deal, get the parents of mascots to buy it but let your Megastore run out of socks!!

IIRC when my son was a mascot about 6 years ago it cost us £165, which included the home kit. I thought that was expensive at the time, but if you factor in the cost of the kit anyway, it wasn't too bad for the chance of a lifetime. What's the cost of being a mascot these days then and what do you get for it?

My guess is:

Royal Lady What's the cost of being a mascot these days then?

Too much.

And...

Royal Lady What do you get for it?

Not a lot.

I know things have changed with our success but back in the day at Ye Olde Elm Park I had my son as Mascot 7 times 3 at Elm Park and 4 away games. These involved a nominal charge but most of the away games were free.
I think it was a Millwall away game when we went down to the dressing room to meet the players and the air was blue with swearing.Micky Gooding being the loudest .The players were told to shut the fcuk up and all went into thoroughly nice mode signing shirt, program etc. As we left it all kicked off again. Cracked me up.
Poss buy some adult socks and boil wash them

Up to last season the mascot for away matches was chosen from the youngsters on on the Young Royals coach. The kids had to be wearing full kit and the winner was chosen from names picked from a hat. Anyone who had already been mascot that season couldn't enter again. A thoroughly excellent arrangement.

Though there doesn't appear to be any shortage of takers for £250 you now get:

- Four players' lounge passes (pre-match only)
- Goody bag
- Inclusion of photo in match day programme
- Mascot to meet the players
- Pre match warm up on the Madejski Stadium pitch
- Photo taken of mascots in centre circle
- A complimentary match day programme
- Four seats to watch the game

And the price the club pays for a full kit from Puma?

Probably about 20 quid!

Put like that it's not so bad then seeing £140 of the £250 is for the tickets.

When you consider the fact that most kids will already have the home shirt it makes sense to lower the price of being a mascot by dropping the kit.... of course this assumes the price was lowered!

Just find some blue socks , right size and bung some white tape round the middle.

Which of course it wasn't. Most mascots and their families will probably also have season tickets, yet the price includes 4 tickets.

Fine, drop the kit provision but at least make sure you have some available so that they can buy what they need!

The stock 'control' at the Megastore is a joke! So may missed sales opportunities by failing to have what the customers want in stock. Disgraceful really considering the low cost of the stock and the incredibly inflated margins.

Chelsea socks would be similar. Away ones that is.
