Cameras policy

I've had a scan through the OS and can't find anything on any cameras policy on there. I know that there used to be, but it seems odd that everywhere else doesn't mind cameras at footygroundsapart from RFC. Are we allowed cameras in now, as I brought a new digi camera yesterday and want to test out the 10x optical zoom on it tomorrow (I sit at the back of the East).

Second to this (I know that the cameras thing has been covered before, but cant seem to find anything) whatever happenned to the "search" facility on these boards - I know someone posted a link not so long ago

'cameras' are amoung the prohibited items listed on the signs by the turnstiles.However so are flags and banner.As long as yu take it in a coat pocket,or out of sight it fine

They don't, and there have been frequent shots of celebs / VIP visitors / players partners etc. in the Director's box taking pictures during games.

This has all been discussed in some detail before but my understanding is you're probably going to be alright as long as it's a fairly basic point and shoot camera. You certaintly can't take anything in that looks even vaguely like a professional SLR type camera.

Having said all that, on the day, I think it ultimately comes down to how much of a tit the steward who sees you using a camera wants to be.

The club (off the record) acknowledge that they can't stop people using phone cameras or small, discreet, digital cameras.

They will, though, take action against anything that is too obvious or looks to be high quality/ professional standard.

Don't bother.
Cameras are dangerous and you might hit somebody with it.
For that reason, they're not allowed in.

I took my Fuji s5500 (4mp, 10x zoom) in some 30 odd times before being caught, and if you're at the back of the East you won't really get any good action shots. You can capture the atmosphere quite well, but I wouldn't take your camera in because its really not worth your while...

That means talking on a mobile phone inside the ground it s punishable act.

Yes- see my post from a short while ago.

They know that they can't stop people with phone cameras and don't try to - but if the rule didn't exist they'd not be able to stop anyone with professional equipment from taking pics.

There's a big difference between a rule and the way it is actually implemented.

Cheers for all the advice. Seeing as its only small (kodak v610) I'll chance it, as it almost resembles my mobile phone in my pocket (but whay he makes of my mobile phone I don't know). I might print off that picture of JM and take it with me and use it - for what use it'll do me.....

As you've yourself implied, it will do you no good at all. Last time I looked JM owned the club and the rule book.

The best comment I received was when I was searched at Crewe, the steward said I was OK to take in the camera but not to take any shots during the game (not that it would have been easy to enforce) .

JM doesn't seem to mind. He got his secretary to call me to make sure I'd been allowed back in, after I'd written to him.

Either way, I think it would be unwise to take your camera in as the stewards now know where you are, what camera you're using, and that other people have suggested to you not to.

Your call though, you know the consequences.

I'm assuming they only don't want proper cameras in because you might take some good pictures and sell them on for money and RFC won't get a slice.

I nearly had my cigarettes confiscated at an away ground recently. The steward had to check with another one that my cigarette packet was allowed in. When he realised it was, he warned me rather severely that I had better not be seen smoking as it was banned in the ground. I told him I had no intention of smoking in the ground, but I might possibly want one for the journey home.

Thats got to be the reason, but its masked as a health and safety thing to hide the fact that the club want exclusive control over visual and audiovisual media. It might not even be about selling images, it might just be about stopping people displaying images of the club that they don't want people to see. (For example, Stewards allowing away fans on and off the pitch without restraint, away fans wearing colours in the home end, Stewards using cameras themselves etc)

You haven't got a hope in hell of getting a professional camera and monopod into the ground, let alone get away with using it without being caught though... No supporter's camera could take an image decent enough to sell for anything other than peanuts...

Its probably a countrywide thing though, I think supporters cameras have been banned since 1988?
