Best Team if all Fit & Available

by International Royal » 25 Mar 2007 09:09

I was thinking who would be the best starting 11 and bench if all the squad were currently fit and available.

Strangely, at least for me, it is the same team from last season.

Marcus

Murty
Ingi
Sonko
Shorey

Little
Harper
Sidwell
Convey

Kitson
Doyle

Bench - Fed, Bikey, Gunna, Hunt (or Oster) Lita

I would have to agree expect kitson on bench and leroy along side doyle.

can't help thinking that while kits and doyle are arguably our 2 best strikers we play better football when its doyle and lita, more running, less one dimensional "lump it up to the taget man".

If all are in their best form as well as peak fitness then Convey would be in. However just being fit and available for selection isn't enough.

I would also argue that Doyle and Lita, good players that they are, Do not necessarilly make the best striking partnership, However that doesn't mean to say they can't make the best striking partnership.

Kitson and Doyle for me, and I would easily have Convey over Hunt. With Convey particulay, he's played little football this season, had a constant niggling injury and had a shorter summer because of the WC from everyone else, and never done himself justice when he's featured this season. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

Neither would I, but Hunt has performed well at the higher level and is even starting to make an impact on the international stage, whilst making muppets of those who said he lacked abilty :?

Humble pie from some would be more appropriate than clinging to the hope that Hunt, one day in the distant future, will be upstaged by lil'ol Bobby .......................who has no made impact, whatsover, since we left the Championship.

Injuries could be a problem.

I agree with the original poster except (as with Woodcote) Hunt for Convey.
It is truly amazing that one year on our first choice eleven is more or less the same as last year's so what does that say?
Firstly that they have improved up to a higher level.
Secondly, the signings that we have made have not improved our previous eleven.
The big questions at the end of the season will be "Will these carry on improving?" and "What new signings will challenge our regular starters?"

Hunt certainly doesn't lack ability but all being well Convey would be back in our first 11. It hasn't really been mentioned but i think we really miss his set piece delivery (particularly corners) which were responsible for a number of goals last year.

If you look at his goals against Burnley, Wolves and Norwich last season you can see that a fit Bobby gives us a completely new dimension. he is penetrative and creative and was responsible for alot of our effective counter attacking last season. I don't think it would be too unfair on Hunty to say he would not have scored any of these goals.

And strangely enough it only has 3 changes from the team that lined up in August 2004 to start the first game of that season 2 and a half years ago!!!!

what an amazing statistic ... probably no other prem clubs could say that never mind a top 8 promoted club.

just shows there is more to it than cash and in many instances it is hidden behind by managers as an excuse for an inability to lead, inspire, develop and all those other things that really good managers do

a text book case of true management ... the bloke (coppell) should write a book on it

No truer words have been written this season!!

This is what we are all about and it's why we have surprised so many observers this season.

We've done exceptionally well to be sitting in 8th place, but we're only such a huge surprise to everyone thanks to our success being dismissed because, it didn't require huge amounts of money and we aren't called Sunderland, Derby County Nottingham Forest, Coventry, Southampton................whatever happened to that lot :P
