working class hero An MPV certainly doesn't take 3 times the road space.....

An MPV categorically can take up to 3 x more road space than a 2 seater.

working class hero A Galaxy driven carefully can achieve up to 46 mpg between Tilehurst and the stadium. MAny 2 seaters struggle to get even half that....

On such a short journey fuel consumption figures are going to be pretty meaningless though. And you'd need to specify what sort of 2 seater you mean - are you talking a Ferrari or a Smart car. One will be much worse, the other much better than your Galaxy.

The 17 Bus In all honesty RFC seem to be going about it the right way at the moment, extra bus routes are being laid on for the coming season, hopefully a better service from the Park and Ride, we could really do with a Park and Ride from south of the M4, trouble is the cost of using someones land to park on. An express service from Woodley would be good as well, perhaps Adwest might allow the use of their car park for such a purpose, though not likey.

The overall aim is for busses and Park & Rides from each direction, so that the number of cars coming into the stadium area is reduced as much as possible. So ideally there'd be the Shinfield P&R, one at Winnersh Triangle, one on the other side of Junction 11, and one J12/Calcot.

Easer said than done, though!

There is no point to park & ride? You still need a car and if you have passengers then park & ride will probably cost more than petrol and car parking.

I would happliy park and ride at calcot providing they have a direct "bus style lane" to the stadium. In cheltenham, they have introduced a lane for P+R buses only outside the car park so its an even smoother journey. I wonder if an extra slip road could be made at J11 (both sides) for Buses only up and down the A33 Relief Rd - linking in to the Mad Stad.

If you measure everything in pounds and pence perhaps you're right. But if you also put a value on time and not having the stress of sitting in congestion maybe not.

Perhaps we ought to do what happens in some German stadia - your match ticket includes the cost of the P&R bus.

Behindu How about doing it the other way - £5 if your car is full
£6 if 1 seat is empty, £7 if 2, £8 if you have 3 unused seats

Doubt the car park is much of a money spinner .

If it's not they must employ an awful lot of staff on fantastic wages just to look after it on match days!

Most of the traffic problems around Reading are just caused because Reading Borough Council is so deliberately car unfriendly. Park and ride bus lanes are just an artificial restriction on ordinary cars so that the car journey is made worse which makes the park and ride seem like a good option.
