Reserves to play home games at aldershot

As was mentioned many times on here free vouchers were available for reserve games last season and large numbers of people who went to games used them. I presume some didn;t think it worth the effort to pick them up and therefore decided that £3 was worth paying...

Indeed, I went to 4 games last year and only paid for the final.

I believe that to play in the Premier Reserve League there is a requirement to use a ground of at least conference standard. This may explain why some of the other local grounds have been ruled out. Even Oxford reserves played at Didcot last season rather than use their own ground.

As Oxford aren't in the premier reserve league does it matter that the kazam isn't conference standard?

You'll need to talk to the person responsible ( I think he can be contacted via Swindon Town.) I'm just pointing out the reality, which lots of people used to watch free reserve football. Many of them were new fans so I suspect the initiative was seen as successful from that point of view. I suspect making it free for all would not have been a huge strain on the club's finances, but then I don;t really have any insight into what the operational costs are !

It's also a big U-turn from the club in terms of getting the next generation of supporters, who've been priced out with Premier League prices and sellouts, interested in Reading FC. Have Chupa Chups withdrawn their sponsorship too?

Are there no children in Aldershot then?

Could be argued that they are trying to catch new fans in the catchment area.

They should do what England did when Wembley was being rebuilt and play their home games all over the place instead.

Football fans have long memories? Yes - old-timers (and I'm one) will remember the old days when we were briefly rivals (and we never did actually play each other that often!) - but that was 20+ years ago!

probably not so convenient for the people who live in Reading and regularly attended Reserves games.

I'd imagine it would take huge sums of money to make Scours Lane suitable....
I know the people there work hard to run the club but it's not exactly top of the range....
I can't imagine expensive pro footballers being impressed witht he changing facilities for a start !

As for facilities (or the lack of)...that is exactly the-kick-up-the- arse that some of our premier luvvies would possibly benefit from.


Just a shame that a thriving business (1.5 to 6k) at reserve games will pass by vastly unwatched next season.

I don't think it is possible to use lower spec grounds for 'lower profile' games, bearing in mind the reserves only play in the Premier Reserve League.
I do agree in principal - it would good to support Reading Town by using their facilities, and possible assist them in upgrading. Ashley Cole at Scours Lane would indeed be a culture shock !

Ashley Cole?...nah 1.5 to 6k games will be missed by most.


Such a shame after last seasons vast success (which of course had some pay-off to some of our fringe squad who momentarily featured in the Prem.)

Will STAR consider organising a bus to reserve games from the Mad Stad?

We have got quotes and the basic cost of the coach means we think it would be too expensive as we would have to charge similar costs to trips to London and we do not think that would be sufficiently attractive in competition to the car and train or bus (there is a Reading to Aldershot bus service but not sure of the times and practicality of an evening return). In addition our coach organiser puts in enough time already.


If someone else thinks they could make it work we are happy to listen but they would have to be prepared to put the organisation in and not just come up with the idea
