Prawn Sandwich Email from Kevin Hall - anyone else had it?

by PurpleTurtle » 16 Oct 2007 14:00

Text shown in italics below. I was livid on opening this - why the hell are the club writing to me as an STH asking if I want to watch OPPOSITION PLAYERS in "style"? (inside a small room, with no better view than my current seat that I've already paid for).

Memo to Kevin Hall: Reading Library, Business Acumen section, suggested reading a) I Did It My Way by Gerald Ratner, b) How to Win Friends and Influence People.

No I do not want to watch a bunch of overpaid foreign fancy dans (plus Owen) from some goldfish bowl. I want to shout abuse and intimidate them, "Back The Boys and Make Some Noise" (tm) and make it an unpleasant place for them to play. Then we might be in with a sniff of a point against them.

Total F#ckwit. I like how his salutation is 'Dear Supporter'. Supporter of whom?

Subject: Watch Owen, Fabregas and Torres in Style!

Dear Supporter

Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool all visit the Madejski Stadium in the next few weeks and what better way to watch the best players in action than by taking advantage of our excellent hospitality facilities.

Places are now available for ALL games across the season and prices start from just £125 pp + vat.

Please contact me for further information or to book your places.

Many thanks

Kevin

quite agree - I got it and was amazed. A spurious spam to businesses I could understand but such a message to RFC supporters - either they're loonies or the supporters they're aiming at are just so plastic its unbelievable.

Why not just reply putting "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the subject line like I did (and like the email suggested).

If you have just deleted it you will only end up getting more of them.

Hardly worth getting worked up over, but there again nothing surprises me on HNA.

I doubt he or the club really cares who you support as long as you pay to get in. It is indeed a pretty lame e-mail.

Although to be fair trying to sell a game with the prospect of seeing another performance like against West Ham/Wigan/Derby is a toughie.

Some people may like to ask themselves what they have done to get themselves on the 'prawn sandwich' list !!!

The extensive club database records every bit of info about you and targets these emails precisely, so what have you done to meet the criteria of being someone who would pay all that extra money for a premacth meal and a free programme !!

got the email, not disimilar to one I received before.

This explains the empty seats in the South West corner of the Upper West sas that is where the £125 hospitality seats are!

its interesting the games he chose as they are not available at £125+VAT!

Guys I work with were interested but dropped out when they found the Liverpool game was £200+VAT

however having done hospitality (although not at the mad stad), if you are looking at celebrating a "special occasion" it is a great idea as a one off!

My Reply

Dear Kevin.

I already have a season ticket so I can watch Reading play.

Thanks.

A Supporter.

P.s.

I think we'd all really appreciate it if the club put a decent pub up within walking distance of the stadium.
Now THAT'S what we want!

Nothing I know of other than being registered to the website, having an ST, and buying a couple of London Irish tickets. I have in the past turned down corporate hospitality at the Mad Stad and elsewhere because I know I can't express myself in my own unique way, and consider it a huge rip off when I'm already paying enough.

I'm not naive enough to think that CH is not a nice little earner for the club, and if the profits from that contribute to the coffers then so be it, but the whole tone of the email is pretty desperate. To me it says "Don't come and watch us, come and watch someone else".

PurpleTurtle To me it says "Don't come and watch us, come and watch someone else".

But that is exactly what they are saying. They are offering corporate hospitality to attract people who wouldn't necessarily attend football matches or those who want to impress clients.

Unfortunately it seems they have sent it to the wrong people.

I received the same email and replied with this:

No thanks, I'd prefer to pay £35 to watch Kevin Doyle, Dave Kitson, Ibrahima Sonko, Leroy Lita, James Harper, Marcus Hahnemann, Nick Shorey, Glen Little and Bobby Convey play for Reading.

I'd like to see more than 9 players on the pitch for us, to be honest.

I just chose to delete it as I've had a couple of emails from them that were useful so just get rid of the ones that aren't.

Why not? He believed it when it was mentioned on the other thread, as did I. And I will repeat what I put there, if the club are holding back a number of tickets purely to try and wangle £125 out of a supporter, then it's a disgrace. From what everyone else seems to be telling us, they could sell those seats a thousand times over if they were sold at the Upper West prices.

1/ they'll live in hope that right up to friday afternoon they can flog the seat for £125

2/ if you've forked out £125 for head for a company party you want to end up in a section with "similar types"
