I think a mix of both is good. The interest aroused by home internationals shouldn't be underestimated. Not only is there the bragging rights to compete for but for the fans it's sometimes more interesting to see two teams they know more about up against each other than a bunch of relatively unknown 'ic's and 'ski's coming over on a tourist trip.

Friendly: Austria V England - 16/11/07 8pm.
Not Germany or Brazil but an away Friendly - and we're going to France and Spain for friendlies in 2008.

IMO this just goes to show how inept the FA really are!
Katie Marsden International friendlies should be scrapped, no one cares and even the players don't put any real effort in. Their main concern is avoiding injury and rightly so. Why risk injury for a nothing game?

If you scrap friendlies you may as well scrap international football.
What needs to happen is for them to be taken seriously and used for the learning about the players and the team.
Both Sven and McLaren wasted the friendlies and so they became meaningless.

It's fairly common across football to play a friendly international when you have a blank day on double header weeks.

It's also a very good idea to get the team shape etc back before the important qualification game.
Injuries are a risk, but they can occur in training anyway, so why not have a friendly?

Friendlies these days are about making money, nothing else. Look at Brazil and Argentina playing games in Europe. The FA just want to cram in as many games at Wembley as they can so they can start raking in the money.
The odd friendly every 3 months won't help the team gel. I'd argue extra training before a proper international instead of a pointless friendly would be much more useful.
I've witnessed about 1 decent friendly game in the last decade and that was the 3-2 game with Argentina.
Why should the players bust a gut and risk injury for a pointless friendly when they have vital league and Champions league games coming up
I'd hate to play for England, you can't win. One week you're the hero, next week public enemy number one. The stick Lampard, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Rooney and Gerrard get is nothing short of disgraceful. I'd love to see all 5 retire from international football, then we'd see how far 'passion' from the likes of Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan gets us.
The majority of England fans are fickle w@nkers who don't deserve success.

should play a home international tournament every other other year when there is no major tournament. playing 4 games each it wouldnt take more than 2 weeks. take it in turns hosting it too so there will be no need for home and away ties.
you'll learn more about your players in games like that than you would against trinidad and tobago.
plus it would give scotland a chance of winning something.

IN!! for Home Nations matches on friendly weekends.
No thanks. We've just spent millions on Wembley Stadium and don't want a repeat of these scenes.
