Behindu Well the lack of consistency comes in the endless diversions off to flog the dead horse of whether demand has fallen and whether it is of any relevance if it has. And your position isn't quite as you describe becasue you have nailed your colours firmly to the mast of there being insufficient demand to justify going ahead.

The lack of logic comes because the work needs to start as soon as the season ends so you can;t leave the decision until Friday and expect the builders to start on the Monday (unless you want to get into some significant costs).

We know already the extension is needed. There is no reason at all to 'gather more data'. The only reason to delay the decision is based on which league we'll be in. We aren't privy to the various costs involved and it may be that the board decide that it is better to plan to go ahead but pay penalty clauses to cancel than either plan to go ahead and carry on if we go down or decide to shelve the plans and risk carrying on with an undersized ground in the Prem.

My position has been entirely consistent and you seem to be agreeing with given that we may well not know what division we are in until the last day of the season.

The issue of whether (or more accurately, by how much), demand has fallen is a seperate issue. I have been entirely consistent about when the extention decision should be made and, given that you now seem to concur, i'm surprised you would question the logic.

If we stay up then there will need to be a substantial price cut or I shall not be renewing my 5 STs. Costs are too high and the 'entertainment' this season has been pretty appalling.... Even Kitson has said it is "not easy on the eye"!

If relegated I would renew if we saw cuts almost to the level of our last CCC season [with the parachute plus 2 PL seasons with little outlay that should be possible].... Will it happen? Like hell!

I will be yet another fan who is priced out. No problem for those with more cash or with few responsibilities. I do feel the short term view and lack of respect to customers will eventually haunt the Club though.

If only we had a strong working class voice on the subject of pricing policy instead of the middle class dominated STAR.

Dirk Gently Currently undecided.

To be honest, I'm much more likely to renew for a Championship season than I am for another Premier League season - but that's not to say I don't want the club to achieve the latter.

But the obstacles to being a fan and the whole ethos and structure of the PL is really getting me down at the moment. I don't see much point in watching a team for whom the only aim getting 40 points, instead of having a chance of winning something.

But that's how I feel today - probably as a backlash against Monday's "Harlem Globetrotters" exhibition match.

I may well feel differently in a few days, and when it comes to deciding not to renew "my seat" - which has been "my seat since August 1998" - it will be an extremely painful decision.

Agree with all of what you say, the last paragraph striking a very significant chord with me.

STAR is a democratic society and will represent its members. If the members were to say to the STAR committee that it wants to see cuts or individuals will boycott the ST renewal then action would ensue.

The CLub might well refuse. But STAR would - I believe - put their views to Mr M and his acolytes.

The working class always used to seize the initiative...... so how about an online petition arranged by someone who feels strongly as a starting point Mr Riseley - or stand for election to STAR?

Didn't you say exactly that last season?

You'll bend over and take it like the rest of us.

Sorry to disappoint WCH but I have a touch of the Forsters-I don't work well in a team. Sitting on a Committee dominated by accountants and misfits with too much time on their hands is not for me. Much easier to moan from afar.

No - last season I had 6STs, only renewed 5 and was influenced by the decent football on show. This season it is boring and poor. I may renew a maximum of 3 - and probably none if prices are not adjusted downwards.

That pretty much sums up how I feel.

I'm sure I'll continue to renew my ST but deep down I know I'd quite like to give it up.

STAR should actually be representing the needs of the Reading fans as a whole, not just those that want to pay for membership so that they can use the coach or visit the fans forum.
