by Reading 107 » 11 Feb 2008 15:16

Hi Folks,

its our turn for chairman John Madejski to pop in this week for a chat and to answer your questions (in case you missed him on Berks last week)

I'll be speaking with JM on Thursday and the show will be broadcast in place of the Royal Preview on Friday 15th February at 18.15.

If you've any questions please get them in by noon on Thursday 14th and i'll put as many as I can to him.

We've a shirt signed by the Royals squad for the best question that we ask.

Send your questions to royals@reading107fm.com , or you can text them on 07950 107107.

if you cant listen live to the show the whole interview will be available to download via our website or subscribe via i-tunes and have the latest show delivered straight to your computer.

Regards

'We need the fans to support the club in big numbers and make every home game as noisy as possible, we need to the Madejski Stadium full for these important games'

Will definitely say that or words to that affect at some stage.

In ther words, 'please come along still and pay extortionate prices to watch shit football'.

Seeing as though it's the clubs station i also expect many inane and boring questions instead of ones that might upset the apple cart.

Dear Mr Madejski

We're all really grateful to you for what you have done for RFC over the last 18 years. Are you really going to watch us slip back into the Championship and possibly into oblivion? Do you feel comfortable with charging us so much more for our Season Tickets once we got into the PL, with the promise that the extra revenue created would help add to the quality of the squad, and yet this didn't happen?

Yours

Royal Lady (Mrs)

Mr Madejski

Sources close to the club have indicated that you're "desperate" to sell RFC to ***ahem*** the right type of billionaire.

Does your net widen beyond Bill Gates with every that passes without a sale?

It's not worth putting our questions Mr Man at 107, as you know as well as we do, that 107 are a "club" station and nothing will be asked of Mr Madejski that might "embarrass" him. I expect Mr Madejski to wax lyrical about a bit of a blip, great bunch of lads, all desperate to stay in PL, they can keep us up, blah blah and blah.

Don't for a minute think that we've not noticed that none of these interviews he's doing are live ones!

I would love this to be asked as it's something many of us feel. I would also like the answer if it gets asked if someone will post it.

You have said that we would not consider extending the stadium until we know what division we are in next season. To let contracts etc, I would expect need about 4-5 months notice before build starts so we would need to be in a champions league/Europe spot in January for it to go ahead. Is this correct, because if so I doubt we would ever extend?

As the build will take 1-3 years, does it matter what division we are in when it starts?

Why has the cost risen to £35M when last year it was quoted as £18M. And I assume that cost is for the whole rebuild not just the east stand.

Is the reason why the money seems to be drying up related to the Station Hill development?

Have you had any serious discussions with any parties wishing to buy the club?

Where do you see Reading FC in 10 years time?

Did anyone see the classic on Sky Sports News today - Mr Madejski "Alex Ferguson says we're going to stay up, so we will be ok" :D

To be fair to 107, Tim Dellor's questioning of JM on BBCRB last Friday brought back memories of that expression 'Like being savaged by a dead sheep' - hardly Paxmanesque!

Hot News! Mr Madejski is also going to be on 2ten FM in the morning. I don't know if it's been pre-recorded or not. If I were him I'd be keeping a lower profile, unless he actually gets around to answering some of the fans' questions.

Why didn't we strengthen the squad last summer and again this January?

We were told time and time again that we were "going to the next level". It would have been better to have said nothing, as we did nothing.

If funds were available, why did we miss out on players like Taylor and Cahill? Does the current wage structure preclude us from competing with our rivals? (Bolton, Derby, Sunderland, Wigan, West Brom, Stoke, Birmingham,)

If, (and I accept that it is, an if) we are relegated what would you put it down to? A lack of investment in the playing staff? It is felt by some, that we almost just kept our fingers crossed and hoped for the best this season.

If we all say "I am confident we will stay up" do you think we will? I have heard the words "have faith" just too much in the last month. It should never come down to matters of faith.

With apologies to RL, here's the question I submitted to BBCRB and didn't get asked...

Dear Mr Madejski,

I didn't mind the huge hike in my season ticket price when we joined the premier league because I understood that the increased revenue from tickets would strengthen the team and allow us to continue to compete.

I didn't mind the price freeze, despite the extra £millions of Sky money, when some other clubs dropped prices, for the same reason.

Given that we are essentially still playing the Championship team what has the additional ticket revenue been used for? Can I expect to be paying less to follow the Royals (in the Premiership) next season?

Thanks,

Doug Witherspoon

Modern politicians have got a lot to answer for with their practice of vetting and vetoing questions.

Pre-recorded interviews mean that the chairman can choose not to answer certain questions.

The short bit of the 2ten fm interview I heard didn't appear to be pre-recorded, however, as anticipated, Mr Mad thinks we've got a good bunch of lads and they'll see us through this but we need the fans to really get behind the team at the stadium.

It's a question I'm sure will be avoided time and time again but you speak for many of us I'm sure.

Many empty seats next season if we do go down, because Madejski wont be reducing prices I'm sure. It was an apparant act of good will to freeze ticket prices last summer, even though other clubs reduced theirs!
