Just to let everyone know about the start dates for next season, which I've been told have now been officially confirmed.
The Football League season starts on 9th August and the Premier League season on 16th August.

Happy with that as I'm off to the Oval on the 9th August to watch England v SA - if we're in the Prem next year then I don't have to miss a game, if we're not and we lose our first game, the omens are good for another cracking Championship season (I was at Edgbaston watching The Ashes when we lost 2-1 at home to Plymouth 3 years ago).

TBH, the 9th / 16th fits in with most other seasons (apart from the ones where there is a major tournament starting early in the summer).

For along time there was talk of both leagues starting on the same day, but it looks like the PL have managed to find time in their calendar to start a week later.
A little birdie also tells me that the FA Cup final date isn't fixed yet, and may depend on what Capello wants to do with international friendly matches - but it may be that there are two rounds of PL fixtures after the Cup Final.

3 or 4 possibly if you incldue 2 midweek games from the 9th.

And this season the fixtures (for all 4 leagues) will be published on June 16th. (NB - this is a Monday, not the usual Thursday.)
