Why don't the Irish support an Irish league team though instead of latching on to a Scottish Club or and English club for that matter. all that SundIreland bollocks etc........I suppose when a country has an inferiority complex it's what they do.

Thaumagurist* Funny enough, Kes, did you know that a lot of the protestant people in Northern Ireland support Rangers?

Bruvs in Evening Post Appeal for tickets to see their 4th choice team.

Probably the most obscure caption ever.

suggestion is that a decision not to show the game in the piccaddily gardens fanzone was made at 6pm

there were justifiable safety fears because of the amount of broken glass on the ground and what would happen if rangers scored

it then took over an hour to arrange a suitable alternate venue

It was then announced at around 7:30 when finally alternative arrangements in the manchester arena had been made

by which time it was too late for the 20000 rangers fans in the fanzone to get to the alternate venue before the 2nd half began

its a hike from the gardens to the manchester arena. added to that how long would it take to clear 20000 from the concrete bordered fanzone through the 2 exits at either side.

this is being reported as fans being "too drink to follow instruction" that were being given as the game kicked off.

what would your response have been on Sunday had you been at the one pub in reading that was showing the game had it pulled the plug 2 minutes before kickoff and told you to walk 30 minutes to the other side of town to see the game?

So who broke the glass?

Thaumagurist* I remember the time I was at the Madejski for the screening of THAT Brentford game and at the start of the 2nd half the TV screen didn't work and several of us weren't happy about it. But none of us rioted over that.
So who broke the glass?
just about everyone

20000 people inside the fanzone from 10 am, drinking from glass bottles, put them on the ground when finished, over time the amount of bottles grows till you can't help but stand on some from time to time or you can;t move around

stood on a few times the bottles crack and eventually break

people step on then step on the already broken glass and it breaks more

the ground in the fanzone was just broken glass by about 2pm

I think the rioting is unacceptable

However if you had stood in a queue at blackpool station from 10:30 till 2 with 8000 other fans, as they boarded 1000 at a time on a train every half hour to then get to manchester to discover that the big screen had broken down you may have been more disappointed

Fully agree, notice gus has added his worthless two cents as usual.
Had that been celtic in the final you would of had irish republicans all over manchester signing about fvking the queen, blowing up english students in pubs and joining the IRA, thankfully we weren't subjected to that.
Out of 200,000 estimated fans only 30 arrests, thats a pretty good success rate in my opinion and its to be expected what idiot police turn off a screen that thousands have come to watch, sorry that is inexcusable and the reaction was predictable.
Judging from those pictures also a serious question of police brutality has to be addressed, not one rangers fan is the aggressor and you cannot have police dogs taking lumps out of anyone in sight, big brave men behind their armor and shields aren't they.

Whilst I quite like Rangers, and wanted them to win last night, I can't agree with that comment. Did you watch the CCTV Youtube video earlier in the thread? Seems like brutality on the Rangers fans part to me. As for the pictures, 4 pictures does not tell the whole story.

That said, last I heard there were 42 arrests last nightm which of an estimated 120k amounts to which if I'm not mistaken is 0.035% of the estimated total of fans there. Obviously all people who committed offences weren't arrested, and I haven't a clue how many fans went on the rampage (I would estimate no more than, say, 500, but it must be said that the vast vast majority of fans behaved themselves, and it the tiny minority that have let themselves and their club down. However, as ever, that hasn't been noted by anyone because they want to focus on the sour incidents with a kind of morbid fascination.

Gus the teenage cow <snip>

and of course their fans behaviour last night-basically thrashing manchester and attacking police says everything and was in complete contrast to celtics behaviour in seville

they really should be banned from europe now(weren't they warned about their behaviour in spain last season?) not only coz of their disgusting fans but also coz of their disgusting, drive me to suicide "football"

Had Celtics final been in Manchester, Celtic fans running around waving tri colours and singing their usual repertoire of pro IRA songs in a city that the IRA bombed on June 15th 1996 would have been much more acceptable?

The problems our fans caused in manchester were unacceptable. There were organisational problems as they had seriously underestimate the number of people travelling which contributed to the problems, hence the police being "overstretched".

There are good and bad elements in both supports. It would be wrong to pretend there isn't.
