Stranded Didn't the season start very early that year though, ie first weekend of August due to the WC.

6th August - only 3 days earlier. Going by your list, why not:

9/8 Home
League Cup Rd 1 is that midweek
16/8 Away
Midweek W/c 18/8 - Home again if fixtures
23/8 - Away

Also, as there is another weekend between the BH weekend and the England game on 06/09, the midweek game may be scheduled for the Tuesday / Wednesday after the BH (as it used to be all those years ago).

Just playing Devil's advocate mind

Possible.

Am just going on the seeming pattern that at the start of a season teams that start away then have back to back homes and vice versa.

Why no games on New Years Day?

Not that I was likely to go as I'll probably be in France, but a curious decision.

Carling Cup draw is also to be made either this Friday or the Friday after (13/06) (source: OS for Preston)

No idea, NYE is a Weds and NYD is a Thurs so doesn't make sense.

Just guessing, but with FAC round three on Sat 3 Jan, maybe it was thought that playing games on Thursday 1 Jan was too close? Particularly as there is normally a Friday night game in round 3 for telly?

OS says we enter Carling Cup at Round 2, that's incorrect surely? Championship clubs enter at Round 1?

Too close to the FA Cup which will be on the following Saturday, 3rd Jan? I'm not sure, but ISTR there needs to be gap before the cup round.

I think due to the number of clubs in Europe (potentially 9) who get a bye to the 3rd round then some enter in Rd 2

No New Years Game

by Coppell's Right Footed 11 » 04 Jun 2008 15:19

Sorry if already posted but was just confirming the text from the club this morning which mentions

"There is set to be no game on New Years Day in the coming 08/09 Championship season. There will be 10 midweek games league games"

Love going to the games on new years feeling utterly shocking from the night/morning before

Which is a shame, as if it is still regionalised for first round, we could've possibly drawn Aldershot.

Finishing 18th in the Prem gives you a bye to Round 2, I beleive.
