Royal Lady Another thread that will end up going round in circles. FWIW my view is that the money made available to Coppell has not been nearly enough to allow us to get the right calibre of player in. As I've now said ad infinitum, if Coppell had refused to spend all the millions that Madejski made available, and this helped to relegate us, why on earth hasn't Madejski sacked him? Madejski has been the one blabbing about wanting to be an established PL team and "We won't be next" - so, surely, he'd have sacked him and blamed him for us being relegated. Whilst he may have made money available - it might only have been £2 million or something, so he's factually correct in what he says about money being available, but the money isn't enough for Coppell to do anything tangible with it. IMO.

Thats exactly how I read it Royal Lady..

It was on the club site that in our first summer after promotion, we had two £5+ bids rejected, I guess that was Lescott and Mensah, so paying the fee wasn't the issue, but I guess personal terms is the deal killer.

or maybe it was the fact that theyd prefer not to come to england if it means playing for some no mark teeny tiny team that no one in their home countries have ever heard of

Mensah, Brown and Fae originally all clearly didn't want to come to us because they thought we weren't a good bet to perform well. 8th obviously changed Fae's mind, but in retrospect the fact he turned us down once should have been a warning about how well he'd do.

Brown seems to have got it right. Although you have to wonder if he'd have come whether things would have been rather different.

I'm not sure wages had much to do with any of those.

I do think that under the current management we don't set our sights high enough in the players we look to bring in. But given Coppell and Hammond's track record they lack a little bit off nous with th ebig signings. Its the <£1m brigade where they really know their business.

Some of the views expressed on this topic are risible.

The league table shows that we are on course for 92 points and goal difference of plus 46.
Automatic promotion, probably as champions!

Woodcote Royal
79Royal And bring in who? A new manager will not have anymore money to spend than Coppell has. Madejski is taking his money whilst he can, because he knows that he might not get it back from the sale of the club.

Yet another who blames the Chairman when everything points towards the manager :|

It has got nothing to do with how much money Coppell has got to spend and everything to with him not spending it.

He didn't spend it last season and we got relegated.

He hasn't spent it this season and if we're not amongst the early front runners he should be sacked.

I'd have to disagree with you. Coppell is widely renowned in footballing circles as a top manager and I cannot think of another manager who we could get in that would be better than him.
