"Come on you Royals" deep voice man

by Stuka » 22 Sep 2008 18:44

Does anybody know the man with a very distinctive deep voice often to he heard shouting "Come on you Royals" in almost robot-like tones? He's wicked! I'm starting to hear him more regularly now.

Is it a kind of milti-pitched "COME on YOU roy-UUURLS", as if he's Barry White with his voice breaking for a second time?

If so he used to be an Elm Park regular, but I think I've only heard him once at the madejski.

I think that's him. I first noticed him at the League Cup game with Luton, and seen him regually since then- including the odd away match like Watford.

Anyway I hope the club get him as a compare one week, that would be superb.

More dalek than Barry White. Sat just in front of me. Rather monotonous "chant" but good fun. Better than the moaners behind me (even if they made a lot of valid points).

Yeh i heard him to and i was sitting near the front. I swear i have heard him in the mad stad aswell.

One thing i did find strange was this Reading fan infront of me at Watford. He was actually shouting at himself, no-one else was around him apart from me and my mate behind him. Then he turned round to me and i thought he was having a go at me. But he was saying that he has told the Reading players to go out and win and spoke to Steve Coppell aswell. Was all a bit strange. He then got up and said i have heard enough of this bollocks and walked out to get a pasty. Very strange. Some guys infront of us said "dont worry he is like that all the time".

The man in question has been seen at a number of away games. I cannot think of the game in question but he was particulary animated, slightly drunk and accidentally knocked a coppers hat off. It was totally unintentional and luckily for him, the copper thought so too. He's a passionate man - thats all. At Watford he was chanting on his own, realised and lasughed about it. At least he was amusing a few around him.

a few years back I went to a match at Brentford as a game of ours (at Watford I think) got called off late. There was a bloke there who kept saying "come on Brentford". Nothing particularly odd about that, you might think, be he literally said it about every 10-15 seconds, like it was some kind of tourettes syndrome impulse that he couldn't resist. The game was rather dull so I started counting them, and from half-time, he'd got up to 100 "come on Brentford"s by about the hour mark of the game. At least then it was terracing. The poor sods who probably have to sit near him in the main stand now must be ready to punch his lights out.

I remember watching a game at Stevenage where a Chinese kid was filming the whole thing on his mobile and adding sound effects of a crowd cheering and chants as though it was the actual thing.

I should say 'deep voice man' is great though, he doesn't over do it, and when he does it always makes everybody laugh.

As an ex-Y19 STH I can confirm he sits in Y-19 and has done for at least the 6 years my ST was there (2001-2007), even when it was unreserved seating. I went back to Y-19 for the first time since my ST wasn't renewed for the Luton Cup game and heard that familiar shout! 8)

The policy should be that he's known as "Frog Man"*.

The man in question sits a couple of rows in front of me in the East stand - bears an uncanny resemblance of Captain Birdseye - so I get to hear his full repartee. My personal favourite is "win it, win it, win it" although "c'mon you royals, don't rest on your laurels" had me  at the Sheff Weds game. I can remember hearing his dulcet tones at Elm Park...
