Match Balls

by John 3:16 » 07 Oct 2008 07:45

Not sure if this has been mentioned (I thought it might have been as we're now 10 games in, but I did look and couldn't find, so apologies if it has).

I only noticed at the game this weekend that each club has their own match ball to play all home games with. The general design is the same on all of them but the colours match the clubs home kit. I only noticed because I saw we were warming up with a white ball with blue swooshes on it in the same colour as the blue on our kit, and a couple of times the Burnley ball was kicked all the way from their warm up area to the end of our area and they were using a white ball with claret and blue swooshes. I think they also had the club crest on too.

Watching the Championship I then looked for this and saw that Watford had a horrid ball that was white with barely visible yellow swooshes.

I like the idea of this. Is this the first time it's happened? I guess when the clocks go back in a couple of weeks we can look forward to playing with a yellow and blue swooshed ball though...

The problem is that the ball can merge into the background in some photos - so might be harder for players to spot?

Our ball looks bigger than theirs. Are we cheating?

So when Marcus uses coloured contact lenses does that mean he'll not be able to see certain coloured balls?

i see what he means. If the blue and white ball is in the air, and the player can see the crown wearing blue and white, it could be confusing

This ball is small.

The one over there, is far away.
