Nicky and Siddy sat on a bench

by Woodcote Royal » 19 Oct 2008 09:38

"Blimey, Siddy, other than for England, I haven't sat on one of these since I was about 19!"

"When you've done it most Saturdays for the last 2 years, mate, you'll be spending Sunday mornings getting splinters out of your @rse"

Still earning more money than you or I could dream of earning though - so they've had the last laugh really.

I think Dave will be saying something very similar to Ibrahima pretty soon.

Sidwell has been injured as is Sonko.
Shorey was dropped under a change of system.
Kitson starts for Stoke today.
I have never understood why people feel this way about ex-players,almost like hoping that a relationship won't work out after being jilted.
In the case of these we have received something like £10million which even today is a hell of a lot of money and I wish them all well, until of course if and when they come up against us again.

Feel like what about or ex players?
There have been no posts on this thread that have been abusive towards our old players. The point is just being made that none of them have yet to do anything of note since they left Reading.

Fair point Pearcey in this thread-in others there has been a lot of "he wasnt very good anyway and was disruptive" comments about ALL that have left.
BTW both Kitson AND Sonko have started today and Kitson's link-up play has been excellent.

Depends if money is your goal, or actually playing i guess, anyone who has been at a job with nothing to do will know how doing nothing gets rather boring, IMHO all these subs have lessened the game, just means the big clubs have even more of the better players, less for everyone else, who needs 7 subs on the bench??

Apart from joining better teams obviously.

How much do you expect them to have achieved considering it's only the middle of October?

Shorey has started 7 of Villa's league games and they sit rather nicely in the top 6.

To say that Sidwell has achieved nothing is a bit harsh, he would've won a league runners up medal last season (even if he didn't qualify for one, being part of that squad will have taught him a lot about what it takes to win at the highest level) plus financially secured his family for life. I didn't like the things he said in the media whilst holding out for his free transfer, but I have a lot of respect for the way he played and can understand why he did it.

Kitson has taken a little longer to settle by the sounds of it, but then he's also been there for less time.

Stoke are not really pulling up trees, Kitson is adapting to their style, different from here, personally I like to see all ex Reading players succeed, makes us look better as a club IMHO.

If Murty was ever good enough for Chelsea to sign him, he would have done the same thing.

I'll be surprised if he'd earnt much more than £1.5m in his 4 years at Reading on average Championship wages.

I think rumour has it he was on about 8-10k a week during the Premiership season, so thats circa 500k

For the first season or so he was with us he'd have been on about 2-3k, so cira 150k

And I'd guess at somewhere around 4-5k for the other couple of seasons, so circa 250k x 2

That's not enough to never have to work again and for you to never have to worry about the standard of living for you and your kids. His signing on fee for joining Chelsea and his wages for one season would've been worth at least twice what he got in his whole Reading career, let alone the rest of his 3 (?) year contract.

I can't begrudge him the opportunity to earn that kind of money.
