New policy in Y26

by M U R T Y » 04 Nov 2008 13:13

I've been advised, whilst trying to purchase tickets for a couple of home games, that no more tickets, or half season tickets are to be sold in Y26 until further notice.
Apparently this is due to the club wishing to keep the area as a "neutral zone" and limit the amount of RFC supporters being near to the away fans.

I am obviously annoyed at this, not only at the new policy, but the attitude of rfc staff towards me on enquiring about this new policy.
I always buy the same seat next to my brother and 3 friends, who are S/T holders. My advice was to "buy a seat somewhere else"!

I'm sure i'm not the only one going to be affected by this - I have pm'd starliason in more depth, hoping for STAR to get involved on this one...

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, or if the person you were speaking to was a complete idiot - or both.

A neutral zone? How do you prove you are neutral? E.g. you need a member card to buy a ticket from RFC, so presumably they look at your points and if they are too high then you *obviously* are a supporter.

I think they meant neutral as in they dont want anyone sat there, hence no tickets for sale - I'm not joking by the way

A policy that moves the Y26ers into the better parts of the stadium cannot be a good thing.

Why do they want to keep it empty though? There is never any trouble, although it does get pretty heated when everyone gives it the middle finger routine. I even seen someone doing a "wannker" sign the other day!

What is the point of it?

Stadium is not selling out, so a buffer zone makes sense I guess.

But unfortunately that means punishing me who now can't sit with the his friends and family. If i'd have known they were going to shut down the block, I would have found a way to renew my season ticket!

Have you actually said to the club that the reason you want to sit there is to sit with family members?

Yes, but it fell on deaf ears - the person advised me that one of my friends/family could move their seat to sit with me elsewhere - which is obviously not a great help - just adds to the inconvenience. It didn't matter that I was a season ticket holder in Y26 for the past 5/6 years either... They couldn't have been less helpful in fact...

well if you want a st just go for the best available, others may follow. Or is baiting the away fans what you want more than watching the team?

Thats quite disappointing. A lot of the spaces in y26 were being taken for games. Really don't see the point in making that area more neutral, we should have more home fans closer to away fans.

Not much use mid season though. Next season I may be able to persuade a few to move to somewhere else. I choose to sit in Y26 for the decent atmosphere and friendly banter with away fans, but I appreciate I have to share the area witha few knuckle draggers...

Pm has not arrived yet!

I did have a call from the club yesterday but as I was at a client's I did not spend much time or brain power on it I am afraid. I think it boils down to the knuckle draggers you mention causing sufficient problems that the club is under pressure to keep the area near the away fans under better control and until the stadium sells out, this is their way of doing so. Afraid this week at work is manic but will try to see someone on Saturday or maybe will get some time next week to follow up.

Thanks, the PM is still in the outbox! Not sure why...

I appreciate what rfc are trying to achieve, but such sudden change in policy, mid-season without public notice, 10 years after the stadiums opened, is somewhat strange. Also their reluctance to help me out in any way, disappoints, but does not surprise...

Are you just posting to wind me up? I hope you are not insinuating I am a glory hunter! Been sat in Y26 for about 6 years, before that North Stand, before that Southbank... Which is why I am so annoyed that after 6 years, I can no longer sit in the same seat anymore.

Well, I'm rather annoyed about this. I stood in Y26 for the Burnley game and thoroughly enjoyed it. Was planning on going there for the Xmas games.

Would you expect them to run the stadium in exactly the same way today as they did 10 years ago ?

They won't have taken this step just for fun, it's dealing with what is seen as an issue.

And they did try and help you out, they pointed out that there are loads of seats available. I'm sure you could get one in Y25, probably several so you could all sit together.
