Sad News

by STAR Voice » 29 Dec 2008 13:20

I regret to announce that Roy Tranter, President of STAR and Vice-President of Reading FC, passed away last night.

A full tribute will be posted later this afternoon, but in the meantime never let it be forgotten that Roy was the one, who, in 1983, personally took out the High Court injunction which suspended any share dealing in Reading FC shares between Frank Waller (RFC Chairman) and Robert Maxwell.

This was the first step in defeating Maxwell's "Thames Valley Royals" scheme - and without this action it's almost certain that the Club would not have existed for the last 25 years.

RIP, Roy, and thank you for the many things you have done for Reading FC and its supporters.

Anyone who was instrumental in saving our football club is alright by me. Condolences to all who knew him.

RIP Roy.

I wasn't even a southerner in 1983, let alone a Reading fan, but RIP none the less.

I can still remember the shock, disbelief and gloom caused by the the Thames Valley Royals proposals. At one point, the merger seemed to be a done deal. Thanks to the foresight and positive action of Roy Tranter, we still have our club to support. R.I.P.
