It took him an awfully long time to get Burton Albion to their current position.

But he has built consistently. How many promotions has he led them to? Either way he's now 42 years old - a good age to take a decently high level Championship job. Just in time to promote 'The Damned United.'

Bit too much of a jump for me, he would be better served at a club in League 1 or below. Bit like Ince, I think the pressure on him would be too much

Well it looks like we will see:

The one thing in Clough's favour over Ince is he is a very calm family man. Ince looked like a nervous wreck when he was at Blackburn.

I also think tier 5 to tier 2 is one step too high.

Good luck to him though. Tough job at Derby.

Another thing in his favour is ten years of management. He surely knows his managerial style by now.

He may find it difficult managing the ego of championship players though.

Anyway I loved Brian Clough and am happy to see Nigel in the league.

One. Though they were looking odds-on for automatic promotion this year. Good luck to him, doubt he'll get 10 years to do it.

Derby Chairman Adam Pearson He's got a presence about him and he commands respect. He's firm but fair and I think he'll bring a considered approach to managing this set of players. I do believe Nigel is very much his own man but he does want to create his own dynasty at the club, he's already spoken of a 10-year plan.

Well he had a very understanding chairman at Burton and it seems like Pearson is a decent chap as well. I also think the Derby fans will give him a bit more slack due to his dad.

As to why I said I was now a Derby fan well that's as I loved ol' big head. I really hope that Cloughie Mark 2 does well.

I'd ask Jewell and Davies if Pearson is an understanding man

I agree with you about Pearson's attitude to Davies but I think he gave Jewell plenty of time.

He wont last 24 months then. lol.

It's a real shame for Burton. I've got a huge soft spot for them. After 10 years and now being so close to achieving what he and his staff wanted at Burton, he leaves.

I hope the Albion get a decent manager in and can carry on the good work of Clough, and realise their dreams of playing in the football league.

Obviously his record at Derby was second-to-none, but I always associate Brian Clough with Forest.
Interesting that Forest (on the face of it) didn’t approach Nigel for their managerial vacancy.

It’s going to be interesting to see who fares better.
Both clubs near the bottom of the pile, with decent support, few good players and not much money to spend.

It certainly will. What with Davies, the ex-manager of Derby, now at Forest and obviously the Cloughie factor at Derby. There's also the small matter of the FA cup 4th round tie between the two sides later on in the month.

And yes I associate Cloughie with Forest too but that's due to age I reckon. I was 11 when Forest got to the cup Final against Spurs. I always remember Cloughie's green jumper. It was only when Cloughie died in 2004 that I found out about all the miracles he had worked earlier in his career.

Just watched the edited highlights of Clough's press conference today.

He seems like an incredibly composed, respectful and intelligent guy. He is no Ince. More like our own Stevie C if anything.

His Dad was one of the greatest English managers ever, and NC has always been super nice and respectful in interviews that I have seen of him.
So there's no real surprise.
If he's anywhere near as brilliant as his Dad was, then he'll have a fantastic career.
