Shorey - not a surprise!!

by Mr Angry » 09 Jan 2009 11:44

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has told left-back Nicky Shorey he can leave the club, with West Ham and Tottenham both interested. (The Sun)

A whole new spate of sightings of Nicky at West Ham for his medical to come then??

I would be intrigued to know the ins and outs if he does leave, never had it down as an ability thing so his attitude must be shocking

The games where i've watched Villa and Shorey has been playing, he has looked woefully short of premiership class, i'd be surprised if a prem club bought him.

Once he played for England, he lost all his class. Maybe he got big-headed.

Should have gone to West Ham in the first place IMHO.

He made a reputation for playing for England. He'll live off that for a little while yet. The bottom third of the Premiership would snap him up.

I don't doubt Shorey's contribution whilst at Reading, but he benefited from our style of play and what was no real necessity for him to get forward frequently, and run at the opposition players. For a Premiership full-back, he isn't very quick, barely runs with the ball, and is woefully one-footed.

Haven't we said that the most STANDOUT thing about Reading FC was the lack of STARS, just a very good unit growing and knowing each other strengths and weaknesses.
I don't blame any player who wants to leave us for a better standard of football though.
I would have thought that O'Neill would give him a chance to bed in, but perhaps he wants to get rid, as he feels there are better players out there with the old wheel-a-deal.
