Buying tickets at the gate........

by woodley_royal_124 » 09 Jan 2009 23:36

I remember when I went to watch Reading play Fulham up at Craven cottage that it was possible to buy a ticket at the gate (at the Away end). Admittedly, the bit we went in was the so called 'neutral' part because there were lots of Fulham fans there too. Is that still possible and are there any other football clubs where you can still do this ?? I always thought that for away fans especially tickets always have to be bought in advance ?

Depends on the game and how many have been sold. Obviously if the whole away allocation has been sold then none will be available, but if there's space left there's no real reason why a club wouldn't put unsold tickets on sale.

The only reason usually they wouldn't is if there is police intervention - for instance if for some reason they want all away tickets to be sold through the away club. I think this is the situation for Swansea tickets, but most other games it's easy enough to walk up and buy a ticket.

Bear in mind that at many clubs they charge you a couple of quid more on the day, though - or rather you don't get the the "discount for buying in advance"

It's rare that there's an all-ticket game at Basingstoke Town. I've always walked up and paid on the gate.

Can you imagine that?
