Grass is Greener on the other side ?

by Gunny Fishcake » 12 Jan 2009 12:48

I wonder how much Messrs Sonko , Shorey and Kitson are enjoying their football at the moment ? All have failed to impose their mark and play regular first team football with all are now apparently
unhappy where thay are , though I've no doubt this sadness is buoyed by the fat wages they pick up every week .

Would they rather still be here ? Would they get in , I don't think so with all three being succeeded by better players IMHO . Just makes you realise what a great manager Sir Steve is .

Only player who has gone on to prove his class is Steve Sidwell who would grace any team in the Premiership and is a fine player .

Maybe something for our players to think about as the pariahs gather during the January transfer window and they are tempted by sitting on a premiership bench most weeks .

At the end of the day players love playing first team football and that's surely what's it all about but money is the blood of our beloved game and will always be the winner I guess .

Stay with us , enjoy the ride and be heroes here !

Shorey and Kitson would both walk back into this side if they were playing at their best.

Sonko would probably still get in too if he was the same player as before his injury. Unfortunately for him he seems to have lost whatever it was going for him (more than just half a yard of pace and timing in my opinion) and the current Sonko model wouldn't get back in this seasons back four.

I thought Kitson played well vs Liverpool. He'll come good.

I think that is the whole point of the original post - none of them are currently "playing at their best" as otherwise this would be a pointless thread.

Jimmy Quinn would get in the team if he was 20 years younger and Robin Friday would if he was still alive.

You have to work with what you have today and on current form I wouldn't select Kitson, Sonko or Shorey above what we have.

I don't think any of them were ever going to recreate that form here though and so I doubt they'd regret the decision to leave. I probably should've rememebered to add that before clicking submit though!

You are right TROLI and I think they are not playing their best because they are not happy .

I think Shorey would get in at his very best though who would not say Armstrong has more than filled his boots and Kitson I'm not sure , he reallly is out of sorts not one goal this season .

As for Sonko , I think he would struggle to get in , and too much of a liabilty in our own box .

The main point in this, IMHO, is that players like Kitson, Sonko and (to a lesser extent) Shorey can look good in a good team. It's when they move out of that team that they look like the ordinary players they really are.

This isn't new for Reading players: what did Taylor or Osborne do after they left a good team and tried to make it away from Reading?

out of all of them i'd like to see kitson do well

obviously this may be way off the mark but i think the other 2 left for reasons other than having a real desire to play prem footy!!

shorey left for money and now is left out and probably moving on!!
