According to reports in Italy this morning the meeting was actually about City trying to sign Dida. The fact that none of Silvio Berlusconi, Gaetano Paolillo (Kaká's agent) or Bosco (Kaká's father) were in attendance seems to satisfy the Italian media and it's being written off as standard fictional British journalism.

Robinho was a  signing because of City's recent stature, but at least he was having some problems at Madrid - a move was expected, even if his eventual destination was not.

If Kaka moves to City - well, is that football as we know it officially, finally, dead? One of the best players in the world joining Manchester City? Surely not?

BBC Sport Manchester City have opened talks with Italian side AC Milan over the transfer of their Brazilian playmaker Kaka, BBC Radio 5 Live understands.

A report on Mediaset, a website of Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi, says City want Kaka "at all costs".

A City delegation has reportedly met with their Milan counterparts with a bid of £100m and a weekly wage of £500,000 on offer for the 26-year-old.

The Eastlands club refused to comment on the latest transfer reports.

Not saying you're wrong, but at least the BBC is a slightly more reputable source.

He won't go. I hope. Otherwise, it really does signal the death of football. He wouldn't go for footballing reasons.

When will Man City take the "most despised club in England" mantle from Chelsea? Will it be if they sign Kaka or will it be if they win something?

Surely Manchester United has that mantle, not Chelsea?

Surely they are more despised now, along with Villa, Liverpool and Man Utd, with all those spending more money than Chelsea in the last couple of seasons.

Becoming a 'hated club' isn't just about spending money. One of the reasons United and Chelsea run away with the 'most hated' title is the way that they have conducted themselves on the pitch in the last few years.

If City become a bunch of aggressive, cheating primadonnas then I'm sure people will start to get fed up with them.

Other than Leeds, only succesful clubs are hated.

It's part of it, yes. I don't think Millwall were particularly liked when they were a top flight club, although that's only moderate 'success'. Tbf they don't even register on the radar any more.

MiniRoyal
Man utd are a self made club (as much as any these days). They're not the product of some wealthy individual trying to buy success (although I'm not sure exactly how true that is under the Glazers).

Glazer couldn't even afford to buy United let alone the success we've had.
