If teams can afford it, there's no problem, the cat was let out of the bag years and years ago.

If the authorities want to make sweeping changes, they can. NBA players can't take a piss in the wrong place without the league coming down on them like a ton of bricks. Iirc, players are fined almost every year for not wearing a suit/team gear to official meetings etc.

Similarly, look how Lewis Hamilton never takes off his McLaren baby-gro.

It would be the biggest change to the way football is governed in my lifetime, but it can be done with the will.

This is nothing new in football.

Vast transfer fees and wages?

As a RFC fan I don't really give a phuck about the fee, as I said if you can afford it, what's the problem.
I blame Alf Common.

I think that the common fan watching all of this unfold might be asking 'why am I bothering?'

You aren't making any arguments, RB, just blankly sticking to your line.

I haven't read anything to change that, because there is no argument.

Why would Kaka or anyone going to Man City make a fan of Reading, Colchester, Bradford etc on their to football at 14:45 on a Saturday afternoon think 'why am I bothering...'

Indeed, why are people bothered about this?

I think the fact is you want your team to play in the best league but the gulf is getting bigger and bigger due to the money!

I suppose cmonurz is meaning that if City g the way of Chelsea and their wealth catipults them into the Premiership's elite then it's taking away any chance of other clubs deservedly pushing their way in, i.e Ipswich going up and getting 5th and UEFA cup or less fashionable clubs getting into cupfinals and the like. It's already bad enough with the fat cat 4, Villa have been brilliant this season but even they and the lkes of Spurs will have next to no chance next season and for the future. So altough it doesn't effect us or other clubs really, it may do long term in terms of trying t be succesfull. However it certainly won't have me questioning why am i bothering I must say. Personally the fee is obsurd and the wages is almsot sickening in all honesty. People around the world are really struggling just to live at the minute and someone is going to be on 500k a week. Football REALLY needs a salary cap because that is ludicrous. Are we going to get Terry and Lampard, Rooney and Torres go to their clubs now and say look what he's on? If you don't offer me xxxxx I will go to them as well? It sets a dangerous precedent.

How many times does it need saying, salary caps are impossible to implement
NBA players are amongst the wealthiest sport stars in the world despite the ‘salary cap’. They just pass over most the sponsorship money they get as royalties to the players, by passing the cap.

I knew it, it's all about fan jealousy.
This would not kill football.

Don't tell me that all the other Prem clubs would refuse these Middle Eastern backers, because they wouldn't.
So yes, all these moaners and groaners are just jealous.
I'm not jealous whatsoever, let him go there.
Teams buy players, teams get outbid, When Lescott went to Everton instead of ourselves, as we got promoted to the Prem with record points for the first time did we deserve to get him instead?
No, it's never worked like that and never had.
Football has nothing to do with people struggling to get by, let Kaka be on 500k, why not? This is the society we live in, commodities are only worth how much you're willing to pay for it.
When has football, or even society been 'fair'?

Anyway about Kaka, it's way too early for Man City to buy a player like that, if they were in Villa's position they would stand more of a chance.

12 clubs agreeing to a salary cap in RL and 32 teams in the NFL is a whole load easier to implement than a pan-European licensing regime for football.

It has more chance of doing so in Rugby League as the sport doesn’t have millions and millions running through it, despite the Super League. Players are also less known, grounds generally aren’t full and not many people take an interest.

That said though, how do you know for sure that the top players don’t get extra cash through a host of loop holes as discussed here over and over. WAGs getting on the pay roll, sponsorship deals running part through the players and part through the clubs, subsidiary companies being set up and players being paid to work for them. Loads of other ways also.
