Thaumagurist* Was there a David Connelly who dithered over whether he wanted to come to us and Pardew decided he wasn't committed enough before pulling the plug on the deal? Whatever happened to him, last time I noticed him, he was at Wet Sham?

He turned us down to go to West Ham who got promoted that season. I think he was one of the divisions top scorers that season, then went to a couple of other clubs - flopped mildly at Wigan (1 goal in a good dozen games) - before joining Sunderland and being one of their top scorers in their promotion season.

No idea where he is now.

Hmmm, or maybe not. If you remember, he was set to sign but then for no reason that no-one really knows he didn't - I think Pardew said something had gone wrong in the negotiations. Then - lo and behold - he signed for West Ham.

Of course, guess who was West Ham's manager 8 weeks later. Any conspiracy theorists in the house?

Big Foot
Joe Upson, isn't doing too badly for himself,

He didn't reject us, Nigel Howe/Madejski wouldn't pay the £3m required for him

we had a bid accepted, as Pardew persuaded Madesjki that Upson was the cog to take us up, but Madejski would only pay 30-40% of the wages he was on at Arsenal

So he rejected your offer then. He rejected you.

Harry Carry Helgusson - QPR
Kevin Phillips - Birmingham
Matthew Upson - West Ham

I thought we were offered the chance to sign him but we turned it down?

That's what Coppell said at the fans forum. That Phillips had been offered to us, but we didn't want to break our pay structure of give him a two year deal
