Anyone looking at their situation and feeling little bit smug about it?

I know we were at fault for our relegation but with Pompey loosing at home to Fulham with a weakened team really fustrated me and to top that off they knicked the legend that is Glenn Little (and he currently aint getting a look in) and won the FA Cup which is a competition our club dont give a flying sh*t about which I wish we did.

now they lost harry, defoe, diarra, Adams, out of FA Cup, Uefa Cup, League Cup and potentially looking at relegation whilst we are looking like a good bet for promotion.

could just be me but was wondering if anyone else was feeling the same.

financially they are buggered, and relegation could see them in serious trouble
and will probably delay any new stadium development
serves em right too

I grew up in Hampshire being lorded over by Pompey and Saints fans (ignoring the Leeds (!), Man Utd, Liverpool glory-hunters), so the idea of them both getting relegated this season while we get promoted is too delicious to contemplate.

And still the media treat Redknapp as a God.

The best manager ever and spending money his clubs can't afford.

TBF, he took over again at Pompey when they looked relegation certainties, kept them up, won the cup, had them comfortably mid table, at which point he left and they have subsequently dropped like a stone.

Can't see why his last Pompey spell wouldn't have improved his stock as a manager TBH.

Didn;t he actually jump ship at the point where the rot had set in, the stories of real financial troubles at the club were in the press and he cleverly got out at the right time and has gone on to work miracles at Spurs.

Personally, I don't feel angry at Pompey at all; because, all in all last season was Reading's fault and nobody elses.
If we had picked up points where we certainly could have (Bolton, Fulham, etc.) then we wouldn't be fighting for promotion, and may not have lost Shorey, Kitson, Matejovsky(from the first team) and may have actually brought in some proven players.
It's a shame, really. They looked a good bet for a Top 10 team last season.
Pompey fans are gonna hate Harry forever...

Gaydamak took over Portsmouth in Jan '06
Redknapp came back in Dec '05.

As wiki puts it, far more eloquently than me:
With large amounts of money available for the manager to make record signings, the club finished their 2006-2007 season in the Premier League in the top half of the table for the first time, only one point short of European qualification;

Redknapp signed players with established pedigrees for decent money. Of course they did well.

That first January, he came in and signed Benjani (club record signing at the time), three players from Spurs with decent records and a solid, reliable keeper.

The following summer, he spent millions on James, Krancjar, Muntari plus some solid free transfers and loans - players like Distin, Hreidarsson, Glen Johnson.

The following summer he spent even more - Utaka came from Serie A, he was never some undiscovered gemstone, was he?

has gone on to work miracles at Spurs.

Sarcasm, right? Decent start, but he's been a bit patchy in the league since. Given the talent in Spurs' squad, you'd think he could do better?

What goes around comes around, remember that.

Bear in mind they aren't all that dissimilar to ourselves. Then they were bought out by a wealthy bloke who now has decided he wants to sell and doesn't want to fund the club any more. They're one point off relegation and as they said on the news last night, relegation under these circumstances is unthinkable for Portsmouth.

That could well be us when Madejski sells up. So hold fire on the smugness. Times wont always be good here.

Agreed. And he wasn't spending money they couldn't afford. The chairman is as wealthy as you like, and was pouring it in. But suddenly he wants out, and is now, according to south today, unwilling to invest in the football club any more.

Bear in mind that they're even stupider than Reading fans and the relegation of Southampton will always mean 'Arry holds a special place in their hearts

seeing as Portsmouth and Chelsea are (along with Arsenal, of course) my three least favourite Premiership teams, I am very happy with all this (must admit I have nothing against Scolari and Adams, though).

I suspected that Pompey would go down this year, I may well have posted it back in the summer but I cannot find it. :?

Wish I'd put money on it.

Is he respopnsible for the players earnings then? Seeing as their wages/turnover is around 90%, surely the fault points to Peter Storrie the board and Gaydamak for not being realistic with their ambitions. Redknapp brought in the players he was allowed to spend the money on

'Arry was smart enough to see what was happening, and jumped when it was clear that there'd be no more money. Only later was it announced that Gaydamak wanted out and wouldn't put anything else in - but @Arry knew it earlier.

Adams was stupid enough to pick up the basket case that was left.

'greed, but, Adams had to take an opportunity like that! He couldn't follow 'arry to Spurs, and it was Adams' big chance.

Their new stadium is once again on the back burner. lolz. I remember 10 years ago when I worked at Arborfield Garrison, one of the ex army guys was a Pompey fan, and he was talking about how the club had all these plans for a new ground, then those plans became turning the Fratton pitch around 90 degrees... Step forward 8-10 years and all they've done since then is add a roof to the away end. LOL.

http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/sports-location ... c/1162317/

Plans for the future?
Obviously Portsmouth can only play at Fratton Park for a few more years due to the age of the stadium. Plans have been unveiled for a new stadium to be built within the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard area. This would be a 36,000 seater stadium on the waterfront and would cost in the region of £600,000,000. I don't think the club has gained planning permission yet for these works, but it is my understanding that if they do then they could be in their new stadium in 2010

Hasn't every club he's left gone almost immediately up shit creek? It's undeniable he can get results for a club, but it's also undeniable he's a mercenary bastard with a reputation (just or unjust) for doing dodgy deals to line his own pocket. It just shows the shortermism of football IMO that anyone gives him a job.

You just know it's going to go down the toilet when he inevitably leaves after 2-3 seasons.
