Ledley King into the England squad. I didn't realise his knee problem was so severe. He hardly trains at all.

Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham United), Ben Foster (Manchester United)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Matthew Upson (West Ham United), Ledley King (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Beckham (AC Milan), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur), Steven Gerrad (Liverpool).

Forwards: Carlton Cole (West Ham United), Peter Crouch (Portsmouth), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

No shocks there then, maybe Baines.

Baines fully deserved his call-up. His set pieces are great, he gets up and down the line well and has been a part of a very successful Everton defence.

I agree about up front. We need a small striker up there as well. We miss the option of a Defoe or an Owen.

Proof that Capello is on AE

The other option would be the desperately out of form Agbonlahor

6 centre backs, but only one right back, what's the point in that?!

Also, whilst I appreciate that Villa are a bit out of form, i'm not sure what Ashley Young has done wrong, much more consistent than Downing, SWP and Lennon.

If I was trying to think of a small striker in the mould of Owen or Defoe, Kevin Davies would probably be last on my list... :|

I can't believe I'm actually going to watch that shower of shit.

Can't really get out of it either. 2 hour poxy frive to Carrow Road, then coach to London, crap football match, coach back, then 2 hour drive home. All for a pointless friendly with over paid pointless 'stars'.

to be honest i wouldn't be surpsrised if he played gerrard in the same position rafa plays him for liverpool. Capello i think will play him just behind Rooney for the first half

Jagielka has played quite a bit at right back, including a number of times this season. Both games are at home as well and so replacements can be called in pretty easily. I agree on Baines though. I think he would've got Shorey's call up if he'd been fit as well.

I'd always rather see a 5th forward in the squad over and above yet another defender though.

It does seem that Cappello doesn't fancy Young much, and has decided that having the proven goalscoring ability of Owen in the squad isn't important.

It's more the six centre backs part that feels a bit strange. I'd have thought that Rio & JT (as Maclaren calls them) will be playing in the qualifier, and it would seem to me (based on the season so far) that Lescott & Jagielka would be the next best pairing. I'd feel sorry for Jagielka if he was given a debut at right back - whilst capable of playing there, he's looked one of the top CBs in the league this season. Would be like when Andy Johnson was told to play right wing on his first England start!

I think Jagielka has already made his debut, at centre-back against Spain?

Who cares about Saturday's game its only a crappy friendly.

Much more important is next Wednesday's game with Ukraine, hopefully by then they'll have ironed out any issues with team formation and understanding, let's hope, with it being 1st April, we're not left looking like the proverbial April fools!

Pretty sure the Spain game weren't his debut anyway. I think he played in one of the pointless friendlies just before the Euros? I think twas against T & T, I remember because I turned on to see the score, heard his name and turned it off again.

goalies look shit, 6 centre backs is pointless, Micah Richards should be in there seen as he can play right back and centre back, even if he ain't 100% fit. Our strikers are diabolical, Carlton Cole? ok hes on form but shit, and Rooneys the only decent striker there.

At the moment we do have a real problem with our strikers. Lets be honest, its only Wayne Rooney who is any good. Why not call up a youngster to give him a try. Someone like Danny Welbeck or Matt Derbyshire.
