Dirk Gently
Which puts me in the very uncomfortable situation of hoping that prices go up once the early-bird offer is over - and that's something that I'm having trouble reconciling.....

But the offer is about getting Premiership football 'cheap' and we know that if we go up then post early bird prices will be lower.

if people don't think through the scenario that we don't go up and so prices don't rise then that is really their problem isn't it ?

Is there a no lose situation ? How do you give people the opportunity to save on Premiership tickets without allwoing them to expose themselves to the feeling of being 'short changed' if we don;t go up and prices don't rise ?

Royal Lady I'd take issue with the comment that it's a" slight hassle for some people" to find the money required to renew all their currently held STs too.

Why ?

You can either do it or you can't....

I can't.

I'll probably just about manage to do one.

But if others can do more then good luck to them.

As I've said, what other options would people suggest that would be workable and universally acceptable ?

Some people struggle to get the money together to pay for a ST full stop but I haven't seen any suggestions that somehow ST are a bad thing.

Here's hoping

The club have put season tickets up this year! With the vat falling last year seaason tickets should be about £12 cheaper than last year but no the club say that tickets have not changed. So who is pocketing the extra £12 from about 13;000 seaon tickets? SIR JOHN ?

Good spot !

Although doesn't VAT go back to the old rate mid season ? So they'll need to charge VAT on a portion of the ticket at one rate and on the other portion at another rate....

But that would hardly be difficult would it? I reckon even the average footballer ought to be able to work the maths on that!!

However, I'm not sure you are right about the VAT having to be apportioned in that manner. Those that renew will be buying and paying for the product in full, at a time when the VAT rate is 15%. Even if you are right, then it equally works the other way and maybe the club should do the right thing and give renewing season ticket holders a credit for the overpayment of VAT that they made for a proportion of this season!

Not being an accountant I have no idea what the right answer is but a quick Google search shows plenty of debate about what should have been done when it changed and no clear answer.

The issue of whether a season ticket is a purchase in it's own right or advanced payment for a number of future events is one that I've seen a few times and never really seen a definitive answer. It was a big issue a while back when some clubs were trying to defer paying VAT and claiming it only came due to the Govt as matches were played rather than when the ticket was actually bought.

It's all fascinating stuff (not) but as ever just saying it's 'simple' is probably a bit wide of the mark !

CMRoyal Decision made: on account of the negative attitude around the Mad Stad these days, we are not renewing. We're going to attend as many home matches as feasible, but the focus will be on the more rewarding atmosphere to be found away from home. I need to start enjoying myself at the game again, and this seems the best way to do it.

With you, brother.

I think he means it's stayed the same price as last year, but taking into account the reduction in VAT, the ST price has actually gone up because they haven't recalculated VAT. Or something.

You can not get a refund for all or part of a season ticket. Therefore the purchase is completed at the time you make your payment and are issued with your season ticket/receipt.

If it was a big issue a while back I reckon you can be pretty sure that HMRC made a ruling, which has subsequently been challenged/tested and redetermined/reinforced.

It would be quite simple for the club to ask for guidance from HMRC but it probably suits them (and other clubs) not to do so and just keep the reduction in VAT for themselves.

You can, although it's not very common !

In your opinion !!

As I said, a Google search throws up various articles, with various rulings, clarifications etc.

I do love it when people describe things as being 'quite simple' .

Given that the club didn't part refund VAT on STs last year I think they would find it difficult to argue the case the other way 'round next season.

The VAT on my ticket is 15% and the club have effectively increased revenue by 2 and a bit % as a result.

Meh.

Whilst it might be a little disingenuous on the part of RFC Silver Fox is correct that the price hasn't changed next season - unless I can find a way of claiming it as a legitimate business expense and reclaiming the tax!

That said, if STAR or the local media were able to embarrass the club into refunding me the odd tenner on each of the STs I've just renewed I'd not complain.

And me. Just checked and have 1219 Royalty points, so could get a ticket for any game I wanted anyway and I sit surrounded by a load of idiots anyway so not bothered about keeping my seat despite the decent view.

Thirded. Been doing some soul searching asking myself why I have happily had a s/t for 10 years but was thinking of not renewing this year. I put it down to the Kebe hating negative dickheads* around me. I have almost come to blows on more than one occasion this season which surprisingly tended to spoil my enjoyment of the day. Part of me still wants to renew not to give the bastards the satisfaction that they drove me away but decision made. I too have copious amounts of points so can happily pick and choose my games.

*Can't escape from them either, they were in the Nags for the Palace game. Double bastards!!!

Whats the least amount of loyalty points you need to be able to buy tickets first. (Does that make sense :? )
