IIRC, this year's renewal came with 215 points whereas the two seasons in the Prem came with 195 points.

I cant believe you only get 5 points for an away game!

I had a look back and got 2 sodding points for luton away in 05/06. And it was on a friday night. What a con. Yet i got 10 points for the west brom Fa cup game.

That's the thing though - they aren't "Loyalty" points, they are "Royalty" points - a measure of how much you spend at home games as opposed to away games.

OK - so the name has now changed but that's only a recent thing. I seem to remember either an e-mail from the club or a post by a member of the STAR board explaining the concept of the points system - essentially the points are there to reward supporting the team at the Madejski.

FWIW, I think the point system is a bit tight on the side of attending away games but, as has been done to death on here many times before, there isn't a fairer single system (perhaps the only way to improve it would be to splt the card into two parts, one for home games and one for away games but that would be a nightmare to administer).

And it's not like any game this season (home or away) has sold out before general sale (nor did last year in the Prem except for maybe Arsenal away).

Yeh im not worried about not being able to go to Old Trafford, etc. And if we get 200ish points for renewal then that would push me over the 1000 mark anyway.

Also the club dont really gain anything from us going to away games in terms of money, so they basically reward you with more loyalty points for home FA cup games because you've paid the club to come watch.

ayjaydee I too have copious amounts of points so can happily pick and choose my games.

I hope for your sake the Royalty Points scheme isn't "reviewed" next season.

Even if they do "review" it, IMO at worst they'd only end up making the point system look at the previous 5 years (to "reward" continuous recent support).

Ajaydee, if the problem is the knobs that sit near you why not renew, then move seat in the summer, there are going to be some cracking ones available, many in the east, around the half way line, well up the stand too, if some on here at to be believed.

As has been mentioned a couple of times, there could well be tinkering with the points system, no reason for points from 4/5 seasons ago to have any relevance now.

The last two seasons would be far enough to go back, one Prem, one this season, then renewals with 3 seasons would have most points, meaning that non renewals would be further down the list, especially for away games.

Surely any history is relevant for the points ?

I'm not sure having 3 years as opposed to 5 years history will have any practical effect in terms of getting tickets but I can't see any point in just binning what people have built up.

Not sure my points from 4 years ago is at all relevant to now, far better to have it rolling, i have more points than a new supporter that started coming this season, and if they were to buy a ST for next season i still have more points, putting me ahead of them for away tickets in the prem, should we make it next season, cant see how that can be right.

Can't see how it can be wrong though !
Given that you don;t collect points anymore you'll start dropping down the pecking order soon enough. And if you don;t think having the points is fair then I'll have a word with John Hobson and get you barred from buying tickets !

Surely the point of 'loyalty' is a combination of past and present. Your lack of recent loyalty is rewarded by your points total not increasing, new fans lack of past loyalty is rewarded by them needing to catch up...

Agreed, but they're Royalty Points not Loyalty points. There's not much benefit to the club in rewarding people who have stopped spending with them.

I'm not suggesting that it's going to happen but the club could take the view that a "re-alignment" would serve them better, rewarding, as it would, those customers that are actively investing in the club.

I hope it's not the case, but there are no guarantees you can rely on existing points to secure seats next season.

I would be surprised if tickets for a single game don't make it to open sale regardless of the division.

Again, agreed. But the view from the South Stand is not as good as above the halfway line in the East.

But what benefit is there in taking away the points earned by someone who you know has a strong link to the club but for whatever reason hasn't been so involved for a while ? Got to be worth encouraging them to return rather than persuading those with no links to start. If the people who have stopped coming don't use their points anyway then resetting the account makes no difference.

That Friday Feeling I hope it's not the case, but there are no guarantees you can rely on existing points to secure seats next season.

I think people could easily come unstuck for certain games if we get promoted. But to be honest if they are 'real' fans they will be just as happy watching us play Stoke as Man Utd anyway !
