Looks like 30,000 or so inside Anfield.

cmonurz I didn't watch the away leg in Italy, but the atmosphere at the game at Anfield was truly exceptional, with reference to those killed in Heysel, many fans of both sides sporting 'joint' scarves and flags.

I take it you didn't watch the home leg either. The TV cameras may have shown loads of Liverpool fans with joint scarves but there weren't many in the away section on show:

tbf wasn't Hysel caused by the wops picking a fight they couldn't win then crushing each other to death in the race to get away :?

cmonurz Since when did I go under the name 'Terminal Boardom'?

And no 'lies' here, TMD, the pictures you posted are shocking, and not what I remembered of the tie, although as I said, I didn't see the away leg. I've never had any problem being corrected, and thank you for doing so (and for contradicting yourself in first claiming I lied, and then claiming I am ill-informed).

I do not intend to belittle or trivialise wat happened 20 years ago. What happened in Sheffield was truly awful. However, it is the hypocrisy form Merseyside that sticks in my throat. Boris Johnson WAS right when stating that Liverpool is a city wallowing in self pity. Yet raise the matte of Heysel and they get very defensive as anyone listening to 5Live this morning would agree. Also, I have lost count the number of times Liverpool fans have sung about Munich and 1958.

All I ask is for some consistency in the reporting and reaction to these disasters. Talking of which, the one that affected me most was the Valley Parade fire in 1985. We played there 1 week before.

And finally, anyone who seriously thinks that reopening terraces is a good idea needs to think again.

Interesting to get an MP in (Minister for Culture - think?!?).

Not sure what reaction he was hoping for, but for those who haven't seen it, interrupted with a chant of "Justice for the 96".

The one bone of contention for me is this constant chirping of "Justice for the 96" coming from the Mickey Mousers - how many times (home & away) have you seen large scale standing from Liverpool supporters?

Some chap associated with Liverpool has just been going on about 'never' bringing standing back - All the Liverpool fans were standing last night!

But it doesn't apply to them  They just don't learn. One Liverpool fan on the radio this morning said quite clearly that safety was paramount. I agree with him. Hence seats are here to stay.

But safe standing terraces will be no more dangerous than all seater stadiums.

susieroyal I think the majority of Everton fans do hate Liverpool FC, Gerrard etc. But as a football rivalry. When it comes to 96 innocent lives of people in the community, football rivalry is rightly so, quite insignificant.

everton hate the football team liverpool fc and will respect and mourn the deaths of 96 football fans from their city

manchester united just hate liverpool in general and will gladly boo or sing disgusting songs about the 96

moron, you do belittle and trivialise it by comparing and referencing it with other events, we could all do this with anything, it's very circular, stupid, small-minded and insulting

20 years ago today 96 fans went to a football match and didn't come back and to engage in some kind of point-scoring exercise is truly pathetic

I have never heard Liverpool fans (and I have seen them many more times than you almost certainly have over the past 40 plus years) sing the Munich song-it's a Leeds thing.

There was a group of em singing it on Football Focus on saturday lunchtime, at the same time as the silence was going on inside the ground.
