How would you comment on the time we played them at the Madjeski and Adie Williams fell to the floor clutching his face after a very innocous tussle with their striker, resulting in a straight red card?

Good luck to Keene. Maybe he's going to refine his unorthodox methods of team talk.

*Everyone* will fancy the RFC manager's job imho (excepting those of course that require big transfer budgets and complete control over transfers).

Successful team. Financially stable. Promising youth players. A chairman who hasn't sacked a boss in donkeys' years. Car park demos etc.

2001?

4* since 93? McGhee's start was slightly before my time, so I'mnot sure exactly which season it was and I don't know what happened to who was here before him.

* Jim & Mick counted as 2.

How the hell is Keane going to function at Ipswich? They haven't got any money.

Exactly. He had to spend £60 million to keep Sunderland up and quit when the going got tough (he'd been found out).

I'm just glad he's out of the running for the Reading job now..

I'msure Ipswich actually spent a lot this season. Several £m at least.

That's one of the reasons Magilton went. He'd spent a bucket load and managed to compete for mid-table mediocrity.

New board came in two days before firing Magilton for failing to get them into the playoffs. They have good financial backing so will make money available to Keane. Be interesting to of heard the opinions of Stead and Miller when the new manager was annoucned

The Times: Roy Keane vs Tony Cascarino

Roy Keane lashed out at his critics yesterday, singling out Tony Cascarino, the Times columnist. Here are Keane’s comments and Cascarino’s response

Keane

“There has been lots of things said about me over the years. I am happy to comment on people’s opinion in football I respect, but Tony Cascarino is a man I certainly do not respect, for a lot of reasons, and if I told you, you would be shocked. So the day I worry about Tony Cascarino will be a very sad day of my life.”

Why? “It is a very long story. If you ask me about what ex-team-mates have said and tell me one, I will tell you I respect some of them, respect a lot of them. Just not the one you mention.”

Cascarino

“Roy Keane’s got ‘shocking’ information about me? I’d like to know what that is. Tell the world, Roy. I’ve got nothing to hide.

“But I know plenty about you that would shock quite a few people. If Roy’s trying to intimidate me, it won’t work. You can’t bully me, Roy — Keane versus Cascarino is a fight that will go the distance.

"As for him not respecting what I say, I couldn’t give two hoots. I won’t lose a minute’s sleep. It’s funny, I never had a fallout with Roy over a decade as Ireland team-mates, but as soon as I started writing my honest opinion about the way he behaves, he didn’t like it.

“Roy needs to look at his own behaviour, not mine. He needs to ask why rumours spread within the game about why many players at Sunderland weren’t happy while he was in charge there.

“He should look at why he left Sunderland in the lurch, just like he did with Ireland.

“Will the same thing happen at Ipswich?”

John Madejski's managerial record:

MM - resigned his position for Leicester December 94.
JQ/MG - left by mutual consent May/June 97.
TB1 - sacked March 98.
TB2 - sacked September 99.
AP - effectively resigned his position for West Ham September 2003.
SC - still here.

John Madejski hasn't sacked a manager for 10 years, and has only sacked a manager twice in his 20 years at the helm of RFC. You could maybe say that "mutual consent" is code for sacking as it's clear the board don't want the manager(s) there, so you could throw JQ/MG into the ring as well. 2.5 sackings then
