STAR Campaigns Just to clarify and set expectations before too much misinformation spreads, yes the football club is organising "clapper banners" for the Birmingham match, and STAR is assisting with the distribution of these before the game.

At least one member of STAR has personal experience having been paid to do exactly the same thing at the Emirates...

working class hero If we can't raise the atmosphere on Sunday for the biggest game of the season we deserve to have our asses kicked out! This is American crud which will be a waste of money and world resources

HAving been at England games where these have been used I have to say this is a bit of a daft exercise.

At Wembley they kill any atmosphere that may have survived the band, all the kids spent the game randomly 'clapping' them and frankly it was horrible.

There should be no need for anything like this at a game like this. Why bother 'drowning out' the Brum fans ? If we can't raise a bit of proper noise then 2000 brummies may as well create an atmosphere.

I know other supposedly big clubs (Chelsea spring to mind) hand out this sort of tat but it's just so inappropriate.

Spend the money on stuff that matters - a few extra stewards might be one idea for this game !!

Have to agree with all of that .... when a club needs some kind of artificial noise-making on their biggest match of the season then something has to be seriously wrong with that crowd.

This really is complete shit.
Do the club not understand that a big game like sunday will naturally create a good atmosphere? You have to wonder what the hell they are thinking about sometimes

Should buy loads of balloons and get the game delayed by getting loads of them on the pitch. Wigan semi-final play off style.

Then have someone run on the pitch and straight towards a Birmingham player.

I'd loved to have been in the star meeting when this was decided.

I picture them all round a table in that little sex dungeon by the east stand drinking squash out of plastic cups. Then when some goon comes up with the clappers idea they all give each other high fives and do the Tom Hark for a bit.

I have a foolproof design that will comfortably glide to the East Stand from my seat in the Upper West.

Before or after kick off though?

Dead right Sun.
If the club has money to burn how about the outside Gents that we were promised when the stadium was built to help those travellers (not pikeys) who are bursting for a Jimmy by the time they reach the ground?
Alternatively free lager for all could pump up the volume (by then we are in the ground and the Gents are readily available).
At times like this you wonder whether ours is a football club or some kind of Reality TV project.
We really don't need these extras-the fans know how big the game is and a true atmosphere will prevail just as it did for that Wigan play-off game.

Totally agree with BR and Sun Tzu on this.

I'm actually now toying with the idea of not going, and I do hope the club have instructed the stewards not to throw people out if they start to make missles out of these things.

One thing though Sun Tzu, what's happened to change your of heart on the potential stewarding issue?

Just the other day on the stewarding for the Brum game thread Sun Tzu I'm not sure there should be much to be concerned about. Their support is no bigger or better than ours.

STAR Campaigns Just to clarify and set expectations before too much misinformation spreads, yes the football club is organising "clapper banners" for the Birmingham match, and STAR is assisting with the distribution of these before the game.

These are similar to the ones used at recent England matches at Wembley. Essentially, they are like this :
- but with appropriate printing, before some smart-arse leaps in!

Everyone is aware that these sort of things are a "Marmite" issue. Some people love them, while others - including some STAR Board members, it must be said - hate them. They may or may not work in increasing the noise levels and drowning out the Birmingham fans (who will have a similar sort of thing), but it's something different which will hopefully change and lift the atmosphere at the MadStad - so if you don't like these please just leave yours under your seat, and let those who do like these sort of things enjoy them.

I think everyone is aware that some people don't like these and that they're not in the spirit of "traditional" football and the terrace culture of the old days. But even if that's your view, at least recognise that the football club is putting their hand in their pocket - a sizable sum, too - to do their best to lift the atmosphere in what is not a "traditional" football stadium with a traditional terrace culture.

Another victory for the jester hat wearing spastics.

Also, who in the name of AIDs uses the phrase 'marmite issue'?

This country.

So the club's paying out loads of money to destroy the natural atmosphere of the only sell out this season.

Terrible, terrible, terrible decision. Can't STAR just junk them in the canal?

"Clappers" - what a waste of money.

If RFC play well the "NATURAL" noise generated in the stadium by the fans will be fantastic.

Play badly, silence.
