That Friday Feeling
Dirk Gently
That Friday Feeling Dirk,

will you be cheerleading pitchside like that chap at Blackburn?

Don't bring me into all of this.

Sorry,

Star Campaigns,

will you be cheerleading pitchside like that chap at Blackburn?

Personally, on Sunday I'll be doing what I usually do at matches, which is applauding, moaning, singing and clapping as appropriate - not to mention abusing the linesman at regular intervals and muttering "cow's arse ... banjo" whenever SHunt has a shot. I'll also have my hands full of mobile phone as I keep track of what's happening at Selhurst Park every 30 secnds.

For a couple of reasons, I'm not going to enter into a defence, debate, discussion or otherwise of these things. Others can do that if they feel the need.

The people on HNA? were always going to loudly hate them, because the default setting of HNA? is almost always to criticise - so the reaction was entirely predictable. But - and this applies to so many things, not just "clapper banners" - the population of HNA? is relatively small compared to the overall population of Reading supporters, and so, hard as it may be to believe, the views of nobbers are not necessarily representative of the majority of Reading supporters. Those with the loudest voices don't always speak for everyone, so while certain nobbers may hate them, many other supporters may not. And I can't help but feel that for a certain number, what they say here is more to do with the cyber-image they're trying to project about themselves than what they actually think.

personally I think this is a great idea and they will be a cool collectors item if we go up! Can STAR get the popular chants printed in the programme or better yet print the chants on the back of a card that we hold up ??

Harry Carry 'BRING IT ON'

An idea nicked from Chelsea. 20,000 free plastic flags for a Champions league semi final before a tannoy announcer asking Chelsea fans to sing.

A banner asking for fans to take inflatables to a CL q/f.

Poor form Harry.

United gave out free packs to everyone who attended that Man City game for the anniversary of Munich......

What are you wittering on about ?

Firstly, my reaction to these cringe worthy initiatives has nothing to do with any cyber-image but lots to do with my enjoyment of watching the sport I love and the team I've followed for the best part of 25 years.

Secondly, you say the views expressed by those who are this kind of anti-false atmosphere generating is just a loud minority voice. Can you tell me what canvassing of the support you've done to come to this conclusion?

I'm sure a high percentage of people will wave the damn things about on Sunday, but how many of those will be doing it a) begrudgingly to try and help generate the atmosphere the club wants to do everything they can to help achieve the goal, b) to take the piss out of the whole thing, c) to hide their own embarrassment, d) because they think it's a great idea and will help create the electric atmosphere that would otherwise be lacking at the biggest game of the season.

My point is that some will think this is a great idea. Some will hate it and shy away. Some will be anti it but give it a go to save it from falling on its face and killing the natural atmosphere that might just build up through the enthusiasm of the team and fans anyway.

boy1985 I'd loved to have been in the star meeting when this was decided.

I picture them all round a table in that little sex dungeon by the east stand drinking squash out of plastic cups. Then when some goon comes up with the clappers idea they all give each other high fives and do the Tom Hark for a bit.

Disgraceful idea. They are much quieter than a proper clap, and just sound like rain. Sounded awful at Birmingham and will sound awful again on sunday. How many grown adults (95% of our attendance) do you think will enjoy slapping a bit of cheap card about a bit? how bloody patronising!

anyway
Got some mega crepe paper streamer stuff i need to get rid of. Any danger of being labelled a terrorist or something by the stewards if i lob it?

The club did not like balloons at games

The club did not like paper thrown about at games

But bring it on paper, blue and white sheets, both turned into paper planes, were promoted by the club.

The balloons at brentford were great, the inflatables away day and beard day are/were all great, fake stuff from the club does not work.

Cant really blame STAR for what they do to help, but why hand them out, why not stick them on a pallet and let fans help themselves??

Like the free year book.

Why oh why ruin a sold out atmosphere for a HUGE game? The atmosphere was going to be one the finest seen at the Mad Stad as it was, this could seriously ruin it.

First one to blind a Brum player wins. 8)

I think we should boo whenever Brum get on the ball.

Wolves did that at Moluniex in playoffs, which made it an intimidating atmosphere.

STAR Campaigns They may or may not work in increasing the noise levels and drowning out the Birmingham fans (who will have a similar sort of thing), but it's something different which will hopefully change and lift the atmosphere at the MadStad - so if you don't like these please just leave yours under your seat, and let those who do like these sort of things enjoy them.

here is the crux of the problem

they do increase the noise level, but why do people equate noise with atmosphere? Bring it on was noise not atmosphere

there have been games with a great atmosphere at the madejski. the 1-0 with man city 2nd home game in the prem, september 06 and the 1-0 with forest, April 03 spring to mind

Brilliant idea. I was planning to act like a kunt at this game. Now, thanks RFC and STAR, I can look like one too!

Yay!

When we went 1-0 up against Man U and when we almost pulled it back in the cup a year later.

However, in recognition of one of the shittiest bits of kak ever dreamt up by the club I propose a new chant:

"Reading, Reading, Rah Rah Rah"
