Travel chaos next season

by Murts-is-Lej » 19 May 2009 16:23

Maybe RFC is deliberately trying to reduce the number of people at the Mad Stad next season because of the "planned chaos" at junction 11?

It's going to become practically impossible to use J11 for a few months (http://www.reading.gov.uk/ltp/General.a ... 2-A7832CD2). They close the existing Reading-side approach roads to the junction at the end of July but the new bridges and slip roads don't happen until April '10.

I can forsee a season of great joy enjoying the sights of the brewery and WorldCom from the inside of my (stationary) car. Thank god I don't actually still work in Imperium!

Presumably people will know about the closure and plan accordingly. It's not like they'll suddenly close the exits at 1.30 on a Saturday afternoon!

Another advice would be to arrive several hours before the game, i.e. about 4-5 hours before hand. And leave plenty of time between the end of the game and getting back to your car to allow for the traffic to disperse.

Where does it say they are going to do that? As if they are going to close access to J11 from Reading.

I have no sympathy for complaints of this nature.Yes a short term inconvenience but can be overcome by setting off a little bit earlier. The new junction looks impressive, but is still a little too car orientated in terms of capacity . The exclusive bus bridges should benefits match-day services to and from the south as well as non match day buses.I hate the term chaos used in that sense.'Traffic chaos' would occur if someone started driving the wrong direction down a motor-way,not just delays to a journey.

Reading Buses offer free bus rides back from the game if you have an old betting slip to hand.

what is this thread about??
cos is bollox.

Will junction 11 close at any time?
Due to the complexity or the scheme it will be necessary to close the junction at times when the new bridge is being put in place. To ensure disruption is kept to a minimum these closures will take place at night.

The existing motorway junction will remain open throughout the works in order to minimise disruption, although there may be slip-road, local road and lane closures as well as footpath closures at various times as the scheme progresses. Alternative routes will be signed and, where possible, these closures will not take place during peak traffic hours.

so far the works have not created any problems, and there is no reason from anything there to suspect that they will.

Still should have been a flyover across mereoak tho

Because there is so much to do around there for 4-5 hours before and after a game.

Not really gooing to be a problem is it if the attendance of the Burnley game is anything to go by, add to that the likely rebuilding nature of the season and we'll be lucky to see 10 or 11k turning up on a regular basis

I'm struggling to understand they plans, is this suggesting that for a couple of months they will close the exit slip road from the west at junction 11?

if so this is geat news for those of us coming from the south and the east! this willl reduce the traffic coming of the M4 onto the A33.

No I couldn't work it out either. I hope they don't close it thought as I come it from the west and don't fancy the cross-country trek from J12.

However, I think you can be assured that whatever the plans mean, they won't improve traffic flow until they're pretty much all complete...

I also come in from the west (Cirencester). If J11 is closed then I think I'll try going on to J10 and the tracking back from there to the P&R at FW as it is all major roads and ought to be relatively free flowing.
