Sun TzuSchards#2 Hmmm....
So the thought of a game making general sale is unthinkable, yet the last time this happened is so long ago (obviously not last season), that you can't remember it.
This game may sell out, it may even sell out before general sale but I would suggest that the likelyhood is less than 50/50 - hardly unthinkable.
I doubt we will have much more than 10,000 season ticket holders and, if the game falls after xmas, there will be no "friends" tickets. Furthermore, if Newcastle are mid table I would doubt there would be 4,000 geordies.
As ever, like the extention, like the relegation, like the difficulty to see progress. Time will tell.
I'm not sure a tongue in cheek comment really warrants detailed analysis !
The reason I have no idea when a game last sold out before general sale is because being a STH I really don't take any interest in stuff like that, I'm sure someone will know the answer.
Who knows what the scenario may be - we could play them in early October with both clubs having won every game so far and leading the division by a dozen points....It will also probably be by far the biggest single game of the season and the one large numbers of people will target as their 'must do' game.
The point remains the same though, a number of people said they wouldn;t bother with a ST this season because they'd be able to get a ticket easily for any game they want. There is a simple scenario which means that may be a bit tricky for possibly the biggest game of the season....
Ok, there I'm going to have to disagree. All but 2 of the games in the Premier League that sold out only sold out after going on general sale, so anyone actually wanting a ticket and getting them at the earliest they could would get one. The 2 that sold out before general sale got as far as to being offered for people with 5 or more royalty points. Seeing as you get 5 (or is it 10?) points for actually having a member card then this is also effectively general sale.
While the Newcastle game may sell out, it will be possible for anybody who wants to see them to get a ticket if they're on the ball.
