papereyes Honest question: why aren't there any maori players in the New Zealand side?

Physical size and numbers

football is a minor sport in NZ and Maori make up a small number of the overall population

If any of them take up sport it is always rugby

Surely a guy who is physically a rugby winger could make a fantastic centre forward in the mould of, I dunno, Drogba crossed with Billie Whitehurst?

Deary me, New Zealand are shite.

I know a man with 1 cap for New Zealand. I think I'd have a chance, tbh.

States, rather, but otherwise correct.

That's Sunday. Saturday's pair of Group A deciders have reached the break goalless. I'm flipping between the two so haven't had a thorough look at either, but it appears the hosts are giving about as good as they're getting from semifinals-qualified Spain, and they'd progress if everything stays as is.

In the other one, Iraq are a bit fortunate to be level with eliminated NZ, who are really taking it to 'em. The group table headed into play:

Spain 6 pts/+6 (Q)
RSA 4 pts/+2
Iraq 1 pt/-1
NZ 0 pts/-7 (E)

It's not pointless !! it gives the football supporters something to watch and talk about :D

i would of perfered Australia to be in it, to be able to see Federici against Torres, Villa, Kaka and Co.

hmm i think Spain to win.

Man, what a bonus --two extra games, one against IMO the best side in the wazzorld and another versus the hosts in land of next year's championship, and some meaningful work in before group play in the Gold Cup kicks off on the Fourth of July.

What's not to like!

Ha!

Conor Casey, plays for Colorado, formerly of Mainz

Oh, and I've had a look @ the provisional squad for the Gold Cup and, to judge by the omissions, we're not looking to win the thing this time

Early doors, but the U.S. is actually looking like they might score vs. España. Really impressed so far, which I haven't said for a long time about this team.
