Spain has restored order, but still scoreless after 20.

Actually defending pretty well too

Superior talent will tell eventually of course, but I could live with a performance like this over 90 minutes

Ouch, Dempsey misses a header that Bocanegra would have buried if he let it through. Good free kick by Landon.

U.S. just giving the ball away too easily lately. Spain putting them under all sorts of pressure.

I cannot believe our boys have outplayed Spain for the better part of 45 minutes, and not least in view of our horrific start to this tournament and generally crummy performance in CONCACAF qualifying.

Spaniards really careless in possession, and I don't just mean thread-the-needle stuff --we're talking simple passes made without a lot of skill or precision, and our guys aren't letting them get away with it.

They had an extra day to rest and train and were in the host city for two days more than our guys, and neither fatigue nor rust explains it.

Eh well. All this against opposition that can hang three on ya in as many minutes.

Wow, close call after close call. Great job by the back four and Howard. Seems like a matter of time before Spain breaks through. Bradley should look to bring in some fresh legs.

We're gettin' ragdolled, which is hardly unexpected --but what I don't like is how, after withstanding every next assault, we seem to be in such a damn hurry to get it up the pitch so that we can give it away.

US down to 10 now (not sure it was a straight red TBF) but it was refreshing to see that the whole team didn't crowd round the ref protesting his innocence.

Bradley with a bogus red, yellow at most.

No, but we've definitely learnt the art of, er, simulation --all part and parcel of a nation's footballing education

And the sending off was horseshit, of course

Edit-- Bradley got booked against Egypt, so I think he'd've been banned for the final had he been cautioned here instead (although the straight red does suck from a 2010 qualification standpoint)

Landon dives and Pique gets a yellow for dissent.

2-0 full-time. Not really sure what it means in the big picture, but it is nice to know that it is possible to beat the big boys now and again.

Was quite impressed with USA tonight, obviously got their tactics right and frustrated Spain.

Have to say Dempsey has gone up in my estimation a lot over the last 12 months, I think hes starting to look like a real class player.

DeMerit's transfer value may have just gone up a bit after that!

I am sure Mr Rodgers will take note.
