England TV deal

by Dirk Gently » 01 Jul 2009 10:44

Now Setanta has gone bust, presumably The FA now how to renegotiate a new TV deal.

As supporters, what should that deal include/not include? What was good and bad about the last one?

I thought I heard that ITV would now be showing the away games. Maybe I just read it on here...

Surely it's the FAs of the home side that would negotiate it? (assuming you mean the 2010 WC qualifiers)

Sorry, I was mainly talking about the FA Cup.

And since when has the FA or any TV company given a flying oxf*rd about what the supporters want? All they give a toss about is money and how much!

Historically yes - perhaps they're now asking what supporters want.

I think they have first dibs, don't know if they've taken up the option, I rather hope not

Nope - the rights for each away game are owned by the host FA in that country, so are sold individually.

Maybe it was the FA cup they had first dibs on?

Their contract is for home competitive games, and its the home friendlies they have first refusal on. Only if they're not bothered about covering one then it gets touted around other broadcasters.
