Schards#2 Hmmm....

So the thought of a game making general sale is unthinkable, yet the last time this happened is so long ago (obviously not last season), that you can't remember it.

This game may sell out, it may even sell out before general sale but I would suggest that the likelyhood is less than 50/50 - hardly unthinkable.

I doubt we will have much more than 10,000 season ticket holders and, if the game falls after xmas, there will be no "friends" tickets. Furthermore, if Newcastle are mid table I would doubt there would be 4,000 geordies.

As ever, like the extention, like the relegation, like the difficulty to see progress. Time will tell.

I'm not sure a tongue in cheek comment really warrants detailed analysis !
The reason I have no idea when a game last sold out before general sale is because being a STH I really don't take any interest in stuff like that, I'm sure someone will know the answer.
Who knows what the scenario may be - we could play them in early October with both clubs having won every game so far and leading the division by a dozen points....It will also probably be by far the biggest single game of the season and the one large numbers of people will target as their 'must do' game.
The point remains the same though, a number of people said they wouldn;t bother with a ST this season because they'd be able to get a ticket easily for any game they want. There is a simple scenario which means that may be a bit tricky for possibly the biggest game of the season....

Ok, there I'm going to have to disagree. All but 2 of the games in the Premier League that sold out only sold out after going on general sale, so anyone actually wanting a ticket and getting them at the earliest they could would get one. The 2 that sold out before general sale got as far as to being offered for people with 5 or more royalty points. Seeing as you get 5 (or is it 10?) points for actually having a member card then this is also effectively general sale.

While the Newcastle game may sell out, it will be possible for anybody who wants to see them to get a ticket if they're on the ball.

It will probably be possible for SOME to get a ticket, but it won't be possible for EVERY body to get one....

Do the terms of the free ticket give any kind of priority to STH ? If so then it could be VERY tricky for every body who wants a ticket to get one as they could not even go on sale to member card holders with 1000+ points....

This talk of the Newcastle game is daft anyway, we don't know if it will be before 31 December - if it's not, the free ticket won't apply in any case.

It'll be the last home match of the season, which we'll need to win to go up automatically.

I would be willing to have a friendly £10 wager with you now that it will go on general sale. Over to you.

I don't bet on things I care about, much less things like this !

Save your tenner.

Of course if it pleases you you can save this up for a for months and do a Schardesque 'I told you so' if there is an empty seat at the game !!

Of course there will be empty seats! No Reading game in the history of forever has EVER had a completely full stadium with no empty seats. Never going to happen. That doesn't mean it won't sell out. I believe it may sell out, what I'm saying is it will not sell out before going on general sale. hth.

As I was not renewing a ST, I had to phone the ticket office as my membership card needed to be changed. Done now and in for 2009-10. All I need now is for the wife to change her mind

if anyone wanted a ticket for a game last year they could have got one. There were 5 thousand empty seats for a playoff second leg. It will be the same this year. Find a game you want to go to and book it up, the demand is down again this year. I personally haven't renewed for the first time in 10 years I will let you know how hard it is to buy a ticket to any game i choose to go to.

Same here AP - everyone I sat with has renewed meaning mine is a lone seat so I'm expecting to be able to get the usual seat for most home games.

If at the start of the season everyone who wants a season ticket has purchased one, why is it still impossible to change a name on a ST?

Me too. We haven't renewed, but expect to get to every home game we want to, which will be most (maybe all) weekend games.

PS I had a message during Movers' Week that Reading FC had called me at home. They were going to call back, but never did. I'm sure it wasn't Rodgers asking if I wanted to fill the Hunt-sized gap in left-midfield, so presumably they were chivvying me up about renewing. Anybody else get a call?

Because they are non transferrable ?

Why would you want to change the name rather than just buy a ticket in the new name ?
