New Kit thoughts After One Game...

by seahawk10 » 17 Jul 2009 18:48

Just watched the highlights on Reading World of the Didcot match. I find it really hard to read the black numbers against the blue hoops. Maybe it is the poor lighting of Didcot's venue but the readability between last year's kit and this year's is striking. What was the color of the numbers the last time we had full hoops? Red was it? The black just doesn't stand out.

And are we going nameless on the backs for the entire season? Or is that a by-product of it being a training friendly? I can see the old-school / team first appeal of going nameless on the back, but just wanted to see if that was the plan.

I thought the reason for blue backs was so the numbers weren't on the hoops, as they are illegible this way. But what's wrong with the numbers on a small circle of white or something on the hooped shirt? Every time my dad sees numbers on hoops or stripes he moans that you can't read them. So this new kit, good to see the hoops return, but how about a plain colour under JUST the numbers, so we can clearly read them?

Why do you need to read the numbers... aren't the faces and figures enough for you to tell who is who?

^ 2004/05 is the last season we wore complete hoops, much the same problem occured, we wore black numbers and lettering. The season after we went for a panel on the back of the shirt obviously because officials had the same problem reading players.

Hoops with red lettering/numbering is far better than panels, complete hoops with black lettering/numbering.
Makes it easy to read, and also looks nice on the eyes.

This seasons kit would be a lot nicer IMO if it had red on the back.

It makes our boys look as though they're wearing some sort of gay sailors kit.

I absolutely HATE this kit, mainly because of that pseudo-Wolves badge in the design.

Have you forgotten that football is not about people who turn up at stadia up and down the country to actually watch games? Football is there for the TV companies. Having clear numbers on the shirts will make it easier for the pricks commentating to tell the difference between Kalifa Cisse and Jay Tabb!

Indeed. They'll have to make sure they go to enough games to learn to recognise who's who now!

It's absolutely hopeless if you go to watch them at Newcastle. I was working out which player was which by the way they ran (or pointed, thanks Harps). They could have been wearing boards with big signs above their heads and you wouldn't have been able to read them.

I posted all this just to prove how un-plastic I am 8)

I demand that Rodger's builds a team around the needs of the myopic supporters of this club. All players of similar builds and colourings should be forced have instantly recognisable hair cuts.

Something like Martin Williams's Duracell look. That made him unmisstakeable. Even whilst he was lying on the floor having fallen over for the hundredth time in a game.
